How the ITC whanau has supported students through 2020

ITC supported students throughout 2020, ensuring the pandemic didn’t put their studies on hold.
The year 2020 has been a tough one for everyone. Every New Zealander has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic in some way, and even though Aotearoa has pulled through exceedingly well compared with most countries, it doesn’t negate the fact that thousands of Kiwis have struggled this year.
When New Zealand announced it would be heading into Alert Level 4 lockdown, ITC immediately jumped into action. Our biggest goal was to support our students, and ensure they could continue their studies. (more…)

The Auckland Travel Expo featured the region’s best attractions and experiences, all with the help of wonderful ITC volunteers.
The first ever Discover Auckland Travel Expo was held over the weekend on November 14 at Shed 10, offering a chance for visitors to learn about all the experiences and sights throughout the region.
This annual event is a large undertaking, requiring a lot of planning to put together and hands on deck to help it run seamlessly on the day. Naturally, a number of ITC students were quick to sign up to volunteer their weekend time to help out.
Here’s a little more about the expo, and feedback from our student volunteers. (more…)

Posted on 11/11/2020 by Hayley Clark
ITC students have recently been attending incredible famils around New Zealand, including this beautiful trip out on the water.
Every year, ITC takes students on famils – familiarisations – that include short trips of non-stop adventure and travel all over New Zealand.
These famils offer students the opportunity to experience some of New Zealand’s best tourism hotspots, take part in adventure activities, see beautiful scenery, and get an up-close-and-personal look at just how everything is run.
These events are not just incredibly fun highlights of the year for students, but a chance to dip their toes into the industry and get a taste for what their future careers might entail. (more…)

Posted on 05/11/2020 by Hayley Clark
Laura Orsbourn studied at ITC with a dream of working at Disney, but not long after she landed her dream job, covid-19 threw her plans into disarray.
“ITC is like a real family. When you move away from home (or graduate from ITC), it doesn’t mean you are not able to ever come back. In fact, students come back years after they graduate to say hi, get further career support and guidance and even re-employment. That’s our promise to our graduates,” Mel Jenkins, Marketing Manager at ITC.
ITC is as much a college for those wishing to enter the travel, tourism, and aviation industries, as it is a supportive family. As Mel speaks about in her quote above, graduation from ITC doesn’t mean the support, advice, and communication stops.
In fact, we recently caught up with graduate Laura Orsbourn, who studied at ITC in order to apply for the Disney College program in the US. Her hard work and skills landed her the job, but it wasn’t long before covid derailed her role and saw her packing her bags for New Zealand.
We chatted to Laura about how she got started, what it was like heading home, and her time at ITC. (more…)

The Fees Free initiative allows many students to study at ITC for free.
At the start of 2018, New Zealand began an initiative that allows citizens and residents to study for one year for FREE. Yet there are still plenty of students who don’t know that their first year of study can be covered by the government!
Here’s a little more about the Fees Free initiative, who’s eligible, what you can study at ITC without paying a cent, and how to apply. (more…)

Students can enjoy a thrilling zipline adventure during ITC’s two-day Ultimate Intrepid Journey course.
The weather is getting warmer already and there’s no doubt summer is on its way, although it may look a little different to what many students had in mind this year. With international travel off the cards, some won’t be heading away for holidays, while others won’t be heading home as planned.
With that in mind, Education New Zealand has launched a country-wide initiative to help support high school students this summer. The Great Kiwi Virtual Summer Fair is taking place this weekend on October 31 to offer inspiration and advice about enjoying the country the Kiwi way these holidays, whereas NauMai NZ is available to help students work through their options about staying or leaving the country.
Here at ITC, we’re offering two incredible short summer courses; the first to entertain and inspire, and the second to help students gain extra NCEA units. (more…)

Posted on 28/10/2020 by Hayley Clark
ITC has launched a webpage to celebrate and follow the rise of New Zealand tourism.
This year, New Zealand became one of the first countries in the world to beat the virus not just once, but twice. As a result, Kiwis everywhere began to celebrate by doing what we do best – travel.
Thanks to being able to travel safely and enjoy our own backyard, New Zealanders have been busily making plans and exploring the country, seeing sights usually crowded with international visitors, and ticking off those local ‘must-dos’ at last. We also know that once borders reopen, New Zealand will be a hugely popular destination.
That’s why ITC has created a brand new webpage dedicated to following New Zealand’s tourism progress as it once again begins to rise. We will keep this page updated with new information as it is released. (more…)
