Still deciding where to enrol in 2021? Ask your provider these questions!

Does your provider offer industry famils? Here are all the questions you should ask your potential college!
It’s that exciting time of year when school leavers are considering their next steps. And as fun as it can be to imagine the exciting possibilities each option brings, it can also be challenging to know which step to take.
Only you can know the answer to that, but we can suggest some questions for you to ask your potential education providers. These can help to give you information that may guide you when it’s time to make a decision about where to enrol.
So here are 9 questions to ask the providers you’re considering, and the answers you’ll get from ITC!
- What relationship do they have with their industry?
ITC works closely with employers from the airline, aviation, travel and tourism industries. We meet with our Industry Advisory Board 3-4 times a year to ensure our courses are well-aligned with industry requirements.
Our industry connections ensure that ITC graduates have the most up-to-date range of practical skills, knowledge, and technical abilities needed for their new career.
- What happens at the end of your studies?
Towards the end of their studies, our students can access extensive careers training, which will prepare them for interviews and employment. They also have an end-course meeting with their tutor to discuss making those plans a reality.
One of the highlights of our year is celebrating the hard work our students and their tutors have put into their studies. This is celebrated with a ceremony and formal graduation.
- What job placement opportunities and careers preparation do they offer?
At ITC, we have two employment consultants dedicated to helping students find placements in the industry. Both Sarndra and Nicky help ITC students and graduates gain employment in the airline, travel and tourism workforce. Also, this service isn’t just for fresh graduates, as we will happily help past graduates find the right roles for them as well.
They do this by:
- Assisting with the final check of ITC students’ CVs
- Assisting with interview preparation
- Helping students find part-time employment during study
- Informing students about work experience and volunteer opportunities
- Instilling and inspiring good work ethic values
- Providing support, encouragement, and HR advice
- What is the experience or background of the tutors?
The ITC tutorial team is hand-picked for their extensive travel industry experience within New Zealand and overseas. They bring a real depth of skill and expertise to the classroom and their strong industry knowledge makes them a valuable resource for students.
In fact, our tutors need to have at least 3 years previous experience in a travel and tourism role prior to being employed. This means you know what we deliver is from our own experience and not just from a text book.
- Are the courses recognised overseas and in NZ?
ITC is registered and accredited with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) as a Category 1 provider, the International Air Transport Association (IATA/UFTAA), Amadeus and Ready To Check In. All ITC courses are approved for student loans and allowances with the Ministry of Education and recognised and approved for student visas with the New Zealand Immigration Service.
ITC is also proud to be a selected member of Quality Education (winners of 4 ST Star Awards for ‘School Association’). Based in the UK, Quality Education is a brand that brings together a selection of the very best independent English language schools and colleges teaching courses in English from around the world. Quality Education schools/colleges are regularly evaluated and monitored to ensure the highest quality is maintained.
- What are some of the success stories of your previous students?
We often have past graduates get in touch to tell us about their success in the industry. We love hearing these stories, and often share them on our blog.
Don’t just take our word for it, spend some time reading about their experiences with ITC and the industry and see it for yourself!
- What exposure to the industry does the provider give you during your studies?
ITC holds regular Industry Expos and invites guest speakers from a variety of industry businesses, where employers are invited on-campus to speak to the students and give them an insight to possible career paths. These events are an excellent networking opportunity for our students and often lead to work experience placements.
ITC students will also have the opportunity to participate on several field trips to support their learning. These field trips include cultural visits to attractions such as the Auckland Museum, the Auckland Harbour Bridge Climb, Devonport village, and more.
Some students will go on an overnight famil to Rotorua or another popular NZ tourist destination. These trips enable students to see for themselves what it’s like to work in the exciting airline, travel and tourism industries.
ITC has teamed up with IEP Working Holidays to help facilitate international exchanges for students to gain experience in the hospitality industry. Participants on the Work USA 12 month program will work at the Broadmoor five-star AAA Five-Diamond resort in Colorado Springs.
- What makes you different?
When you visit ITC, you’ll notice something special about us. Here you’ll not only find a comfortable learning environment, but something more. You’ll find a spirit of warmth and friendliness, a positive attitude that is shared by everyone, and a sense of achievement and professionalism between staff and students.
We have tutors from the industry, an outstanding relationship with employers in our industry, and Employment Consultants that work full-time to assist students with gaining work experience through part-time work whilst studying, and employment once graduated.
Our industry connections ensure that ITC graduates have the most up-to-date range of practical skills, knowledge and technical abilities needed for their new career.
It’s more than a qualification to us at ITC. We want our students to achieve their career goals, and we support that journey from the moment they enquire about our courses. We regularly meet as a team to always strive to ensure we are doing the very best for our students and staff.
- Have you achieved industry recognition or awards?
As multiple winners of the New Zealand Tourism Award, including the prestigious Distinction Award, ITC truly is a leader in its field. We are consistently recognised for excellence in the field through the awards we receive, a true testament to the quality of the courses and the skill of the tutors.
“We enter awards to demonstrate to our students and industry partners that we are confident in our ability to achieve excellence and that we are prepared to be judged,” says Chief Executive, Claire Huxley.
“Going through the awards entry process is incredibly valuable. We put our business under the microscope and identify where we are excelling and where we can make improvements. And most importantly, entering awards allows us to prove that we are the best at what we do,” she explained.
If you have any further questions you’d like to ask us, or are ready to find out more about enrolling in 2021, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!
