ITC Short Course team creates Eco Tourism program

Posted on 31/08/2021 by

An ITC Short Course guides students to create and execute sustainable ideas for their local communities.

When the pandemic put New Zealand tourism on pause in 2020, many New Zealanders and industry groups urged that we as a country take the opportunity to make the industry more eco-friendly.

The ‘Not 100% – but four steps closer to sustainable tourism’ report released in early 2021 was just one submission outlining ways we could improve how environmentally friendly our industry could be.

Additionally, the 2021 Sustainable Travel Report by Booking.com found that 77% of Kiwi travellers think sustainable travel is vital.

At ITC, we also believe tourism can and should be more sustainable, which is why our short course team has recently created a new course dedicated to Eco Tourism. (more…)

ITC supporting students when enrolling from high school

Posted on 17/08/2021 by

Sharon is one of ITC’s friendly Course Advisors

ITC doesn’t just offer our own students training and education in travel, tourism, and aviation – we also have a dedicated Schools Programme that delivers short courses to high schools all over the country.

These short courses offer students the opportunity to earn NCEA levels 2 and 3 credits, and enjoy a taste of what the tourism industry is really like.

This is the time of year students make their decisions about further education beyond high school. At ITC we are here to make this process as easy as possible. One way we do this is by offering this process at their high school. (more…)

Our ITC Schools team provides high schools and high school students around New Zealand with the chance to both sample our fantastic learning environment, and to earn NCEA credits during fun, engaging, and educational short courses.

We ran a number of short courses over these school holidays, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how they went! (more…)

ITC teams up with Education Industry Solutions to help Gateway students and high schools across New Zealand

Posted on 11/03/2021 by

ITC has been working with Education Industry Solutions to offer support for students in gateway programmes around New Zealand.

The International Travel College (ITC) is most well-known for our level 3, 4, and 5 courses that offer qualifications in the tourism, travel, and aviation industries. However, our dedication to education, students, and the industry goes far beyond tertiary qualifications.

In fact, ITC has been working closely with Education Industry Solutions (EIS), a local group that facilitates gateway programmes for high schools all over New Zealand.

Here’s a little more on what EIS does, how we’ve been involved to help schools and students, and how ITC’s contributions have made a big difference for the team at EIS. (more…)

Posted on 20/01/2021 by

Three students recently enrolled at ITC after finishing a high school short course with tutor Sarah.

It’s the start of a new year, but it’s undoubtedly a new year unlike any other. With so much upheaval, it’s been hard to tell if students are even thinking about their study options.

ITC is off to a positive start this year, meeting our future 2021 students. Recently we had the pleasure to meet three students who have signed up at once following a summer short course at their high school. (more…)

Posted on 04/11/2020 by

The Fees Free initiative allows many students to study at ITC for free.

At the start of 2018, New Zealand began an initiative that allows citizens and residents to study for one year for FREE. Yet there are still plenty of students who don’t know that their first year of study can be covered by the government!

Here’s a little more about the Fees Free initiative, who’s eligible, what you can study at ITC without paying a cent, and how to apply. (more…)

Short courses for high school students: Will you go on an epic adventure or pick up extra NCEA credits this summer?

Posted on 29/10/2020 by

Students can enjoy a thrilling zipline adventure during ITC’s two-day Ultimate Intrepid Journey course.

The weather is getting warmer already and there’s no doubt summer is on its way, although it may look a little different to what many students had in mind this year. With international travel off the cards, some won’t be heading away for holidays, while others won’t be heading home as planned.

With that in mind, Education New Zealand has launched a country-wide initiative to help support high school students this summer. The Great Kiwi Virtual Summer Fair is taking place this weekend on October 31 to offer inspiration and advice about enjoying the country the Kiwi way these holidays, whereas NauMai NZ is available to help students work through their options about staying or leaving the country.

Here at ITC, we’re offering two incredible short summer courses; the first to entertain and inspire, and the second to help students gain extra NCEA units. (more…)

ITC short courses are back!

Posted on 20/05/2020 by

We’re happy to be once more providing short courses to secondary school students under Alert Level 2.

We are excited to announce that our short courses are back under Alert Level 2.

As with campus reopenings, ensuring the safety of staff and students is still the utmost priority, says ITC Marketing Manager Mel Jenkins.

“We are beyond thrilled to be back offering short courses and working with high school students. We’re following level 2 guidelines and public health recommendations to ensure a safe learning environment,” says Mel.

These short courses are an excellent opportunity to provide students from all areas of school something meaningful, something over and above what they are doing in class. Most importantly, they help to instill confidence and see a positive future.

ITC tutors teach Flight Attending in three locations at the same time. From left to right: Daniel in Nelson, Mel in Whangarei, and Ali in Taranaki.

The International Travel College (ITC) may be headquartered in Auckland and Whangarei – but its courses are inspiring high school students all around the country.

Every month, the ITC Tourism Education Team travels to different areas of New Zealand to teach a variety of short courses.

In May, the ITC Flight Attending Short Course was delivered in three regions at the same time – Taranaki, Nelson, and Whangarei.

Over the course of two days, ITC tutors Ali, Mel, and Daniel all taught the same course in different locations.

“That’s what we call efficiency!” laughs Mel, the Tourism Education Team leader.
