ITC Flight Attending Short Course takes off around New ZealandPosted on 08/06/2017 by Jess O'Connor
The International Travel College (ITC) may be headquartered in Auckland and Whangarei – but its courses are inspiring high school students all around the country.
Every month, the ITC Tourism Education Team travels to different areas of New Zealand to teach a variety of short courses.
In May, the ITC Flight Attending Short Course was delivered in three regions at the same time – Taranaki, Nelson, and Whangarei.
Over the course of two days, ITC tutors Ali, Mel, and Daniel all taught the same course in different locations.
“That’s what we call efficiency!” laughs Mel, the Tourism Education Team leader.
“It was amazing to be able to reach so many students around New Zealand at the exact same time. ITC was in three places at once! Between us, we taught 40 students across the North and South Island.”
Mel taught at North Tec in Whangarei, while Ali taught at Stratford High School in Taranaki and Daniel at the Grand Mercure Hotel in Nelson.
The Flight Attending Short Course is one of ITC’s most popular short courses (closely followed by the Adventure short course). Students take part in a simulated aircraft environment using real onboard equipment. For two days, they get to experience what it’s like to be a cabin crew member – including doing safety demonstrations, delivering meals, and practising making announcements over the ‘loudspeaker’.
“Our Flight Attending Short Course gives students a glimpse into a ‘day in the life of a flight attendant’. It’s fun, rewarding, and fast-paced,” says Mel.
