ITC and Fees Free

What’s new for Fees Free in 2025?

The Government has announced that Fees Free for the first year of study or training will finish at the end of 2024.

We will continue to update our website with any new information that is released. Last updated 15 October 2024.

The current key facts for 2025 students are:
  • Students who study in 2025 will need to pay fees upfront through Studylink or paid directly.
  • If you’re eligible, Fees Free covers the fees for the final year of tertiary study or training in the first qualification you complete after 1 January 2025, up to $12,000 including GST.
  • Fees Free will only cover the final year of one qualification. If you didn’t use $12,000 entitlement for the final year of your first qualification, you won’t be able to access Fees Free again for a second qualification.
  • Students’ will be able to confirm their eligibility and claim their Fees Free entitlement after they complete their qualification using the myIR portal which will be available to use from early 2026. Until then, students do not need to do anything.

For more information about the transition from first-year Fees Free or the final-year Fees Free policy, visit FeesFree.govt.nz.

First-year Fees Free will continue to operate until 31 December 2024 under transition settings.

Check if you are eligible by entering your National Student Number (NSN) in the tool on the feesfree.govt.nz website.

ITC is an approved Tertiary provider that can offer this as we are recognised by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and we are funded through the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).

What is an NSN number? The National Student Number (NSN) is a unique number given to every student. The NSN makes it easier for us to manage and share information about students in a way that protects their privacy.

How to access the NSN – We would suggest that you contact NZQA here to retrieve your NSN number
