ITC delivers the first Business of Tourism Academy in Northland

Welcome to our first ever Business of Tourism Academy in Northland!

The Business of Tourism Trades Academy in 2023 at NorthTec in Whangarei is the very first Tourism Academy ITC has delivered in Northland. 

It was open to any year 12 or 13 students who attend high school in Northland, and we were excited to receive enrolments from 15 students from across the region. They come from Kamo, Whangarei Girls, Tekura Correspondence, Hokianga, and Whangaroa. 

The group began their studies last week, so read on to learn more about the Academy, what the students will learn, and how the course has gone so far.

What to do if you’re back at school – but don’t feel like it’s for you

Not sure if high school is the right choice for you this year? There is another option!

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

This famous quote is attributed to none other than Albert Einstein, and it’s a wise way of explaining that everyone is great at something – but we’re not all going to excel at the same things.

For example, some people do really well in school and enjoy their time there. For others, they’re left sitting in the classroom wondering why it just doesn’t feel quite right. And if you feel like a fish trying to climb a tree, then it might help to remember that there are other options!

Meet the first class that has ever started at the end of the year!

Meet our Level 3 class!

Last week, ITC launched two level 3 courses at the end of the year for the first time ever.

These are the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism with a strand in Tourism and Travel at our Auckland City campus, and the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism with a strand in Aviation, which is held at our South Auckland Campus.

These courses are also available during the year, but this time, we wanted to give students the opportunity to make the most of their summer break, and to help out the travel and tourism that’s so desperate for qualified staff.

ITC hosts an incredibly successful Industry Expo at Auckland City Campus

On Wednesday August 31, we held an Industry Expo at our Auckland City Campus, and it was a monumental success.

This special annual event is a fantastic opportunity for both students and tourism employers, and we’re so excited to have seen such a great turnout and incredible connections made on the day.

Congratulations to the first of our Scholarship winners this year!

We’re excited to announce some of our first scholarship winners this year! Pictured here: Students from Kaitaia College with tutor Mel.

In June, we once again opened applications for our fantastic scholarship programme. This programme offers a number of full-time students attending ITC or Study From Home the chance to have up to $5,600 of their course fees completely covered by us.

This is our way of supporting both our hard-working students, and the industry we love that so desperately needs more qualified and passionate staff.

And so far, we’re over the moon to announce we have already awarded SEVEN scholarships to students. We had many excellent applications, but here are a few words from each of our winners so far about why they want to study with us and what their ultimate goals are.

ITC announces new August and November course start dates

To help with demand for staff, ITC is launching two new start dates for our level 3 courses this year.

Here at ITC, we’ve spent the entire past year talking about how the travel and tourism industry will desperately need qualified workers as soon as the borders reopen.

Now that we’re seeing those staff shortages really kicking in, we want to do everything we can to help the industry. We know the industry needs us, as a provider of valuable travel and tourism qualifications, to help prepare the next generation of workers.

Due to the demand of people wanting to study tourism and the fact we want to help our industry, ITC has decided to add two new start dates for our Auckland City and Botany Campuses.
