New Zealand set to host major events – and needs workers

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is just one of many major events coming to New Zealand over the next few years, and the industry will need staff to make it happen.
New Zealand has long been a fantastic destination for tourism, and more recently, it has become increasingly popular as a destination for major events.
Of course, we’ve just enjoyed hosting the America’s Cup, but there’s plenty more coming up. From sporting events to performer tours, artistic and cultural celebrations to foodie festivals, the annual calendar is filling up with exciting major events.

One anonymous pilot shares their story of what life has been like since the outbreak of covid-19.
At ITC, we pride ourselves on our industry contacts. It’s one of the many reasons why ITC and Study From Home graduates are so well regarded amongst the New Zealand travel, tourism, and aviation sectors.
We keep in regular contact with these industry professionals, and we were recently fortunate to hear from a Kiwi pilot working for one of the major airlines. While we cannot reveal their name or their company, we can share their story about exactly what it was like for an accomplished pilot as New Zealand went into lockdown and travel ground to a halt.
From disregarding the virus as media hype, to facing reality, finding low-skilled work, and positivity through it all, this is an incredible story of Kiwi resilience and an industry that’s once again on the rise. (more…)

ITC will be at the Go With Tourism Expo from May 20-22 in Auckland!
ITC is one of New Zealand’s leading providers of tertiary-level travel and tourism training, which is why you’ll find us at many major tourism events and expos throughout the country.

We think taking an ITC schools short course is the best way to spend the school holidays!
With the Easter school holidays coming to a close for another year, ITC is celebrating another successful round of ITC short courses for high school students.
Our ITC Schools team provides high schools and high school students around New Zealand with the chance to both sample our fantastic learning environment, and to earn NCEA credits during fun, engaging, and educational short courses.

Meet the ITC graduate who discovered her dream job after studying at ITC!
After graduating from ITC, Paige Halpin set out to take on the world of tourism and travel – although she didn’t quite know exactly where she wanted to be just yet.
She began with a stint at Walt Disney World, and only discovered her dream job once she returned home to New Zealand.

New Zealand’s tourism industry is a topic of hot debate. But which stories are actually true?
As New Zealand passes its one year anniversary of closing the borders and locking down, the news has been spending a lot of time reporting on, and speculating about, the tourism industry.
Of course, with the borders closed and no international tourists coming in, tourism operators have not enjoyed the same level of business as they usually would. But that’s not to say tourism is dead, or that it will never return, or that those working in the industry are completely out of luck, or even that those who want to get into the industry should think otherwise.
There’s simply a lot of half-truths and overly negative press coverage at the moment, and we’d like to offer a more positive point of view and set the record straight! (more…)
