Meet the graduate who took the opportunity for an International Exchange through ITC

Posted on 06/10/2021 by

Titi is currently working overseas with The Broadmoor.

After graduation, some students set about finding work in the industry here in New Zealand. Yet there are also plenty of students who head overseas on International Exchange Programs to gain valuable international experience.

One of those students is Titi Tomasi, a recent ITC graduate who headed to the states to work for The Broadmoor.

We recently caught up with Titi to ask her about her experience and see how she’s enjoying her time there. We also heard from Vicki Kenny, the CEO of International Working Holidays.

Read on to see what both of these ladies had to say:

How was your initial time with The Broadmoor?

I actually enjoy working at The Broadmoor so far. Everyone makes me feel welcomed and go the extra mile to help me whenever I need.

What are you doing for The Broadmoor now?

I am now in the Room Reservations Team. It’s a bit of a challenge, but I love it so far. I actually signed up for 6 months, but the contract is 12 months. I decided to stay on for the rest of my contract to gain more experience and hopefully by the time I get back home, there would be no more lockdown. So more opportunities can open up again.

What do you plan or hope to do after your time at The Broadmoor?

My original goal was to become a Travel Agent, but for the time being, I’ll stick to being a Sales Agent at hotels.

Vicki Kenny, CEO at International Working Holidays

“Titi applied for the 12 month internship about 8 months before leaving – she was that excited about travelling and gaining international 5 Star Experience – which at the time was not available easily in New Zealand due to the lack of tourism from Covid.

We placed Titi at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs as a Pool Attendant which means helping guests by the pool with towel, food and drink – much like a concierge role but in the sunshine. The pool closed for summer at the beginning of September so she has been transferred to the Front Office department and is currently being trained in Reservations for the 2nd half of her internship.

We make everything really easy for applicants by helping them with every step and provide support while in the USA as well – they leave NZ knowing exactly where they will be working and we help with visa, flights and insurance. We can also help sponsor students’ trips financially if needed which allows them to pay off the program fee and sometimes flights too once settled in their role in the USA. This makes it affordable for everyone to do – not just those that can afford an overseas internship!”

International Working Holidays

ITC fully supports graduates as they apply for and head away on International Working Holidays. Our International Exchange Programs with The Broadmoor offers students the chance to work overseas to gain valuable experience – all while they get to do a little international travel of their own!

To find out more about the opportunity to follow in Titi’s footsteps and do an international exchange, or to learn about the courses available at ITC and enrol, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our friendly team at ITC.
