ITC hosts an Air New Zealand open day

Posted on 13/12/2022 by

Our Air New Zealand Open Day was a huge success.

On Thursday last week, ITC hosted an Air New Zealand open day to connect our national carrier with our current students and graduates.

We wanted to create an opportunity for our students and graduates to learn about the flight attending roles currently available at Air New Zealand, and enjoy the chance to speak to recruiters from the company.

As expected, the day was a huge hit!

Whangarei students employed directly after work experience

Posted on 08/12/2022 by

After completing work experience during their studies, several students were offered jobs – including one with AJ Hackett in Queenstown!

At ITC, one of the many ways we prepare students for a career in travel and tourism is with work experience.

Students can learn a lot in a classroom, especially with our tutors who are industry experts themselves. They can also learn a lot with during famils, where they get to experience travel and tourism first-hand.

But actually trying out a job and seeing what it’s really like is unique, which is why we work closely with students to organise work experience before they graduate and start applying for jobs.

And recently, we’ve found that their work experience is leading directly into employment!

Meet our Level 3 class!

Last week, ITC launched two level 3 courses at the end of the year for the first time ever.

These are the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism with a strand in Tourism and Travel at our Auckland City campus, and the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism with a strand in Aviation, which is held at our South Auckland Campus.

These courses are also available during the year, but this time, we wanted to give students the opportunity to make the most of their summer break, and to help out the travel and tourism that’s so desperate for qualified staff.

Level 4 ITC students go on a famil of a lifetime

Posted on 16/11/2022 by

A recent famil saw our level 4 students exploring some of the North Island’s best attractions and accommodations.

One of the best parts about studying travel and tourism is that it means actually being able to experience the industry while you learn.

That means students aren’t cooped up inside throughout their studies at ITC. Instead we make a point of keeping things as exciting as they are educational with incredible famils that introduce students to the industry in the real world.

What is a famil? The word is short for ‘familiarisation’ and it is the chance to experience tourism products (AKA, get ‘familiar’ with them). It includes various accommodations, activities, sites, and tours. This is so you can really get a feel of what it would be like working in tourism.

Recently, our level four students went on an adventurous famil to visit attractions and learn about how it all works. While heavy rain meant that the original itinerary had to be tweaked slightly, here’s what they go up to!

Meet the international student who arrived in NZ alone and anxious, and is now Head of Operations in her dream job!

Posted on 09/11/2022 by

Lesly Dihayco graduated from ITC over a decade ago, and is now working in her dream job.

Lesly Dihayco was an international student at ITC over a decade ago. She arrived in New Zealand not knowing anyone, and not really knowing what she wanted to do.

ITC helped with both problems immediately!

One of our friendly team members was at the airport to welcome her to Aotearoa and ITC, and our fantastic courses quickly gave her the insight she needed to choose and chase a career. She decided on working in travel agencies, and her career since then has been an impressive journey that has landed her in her dream job (as Head of Operations, no less).

As usual, it’s a tale best heard in her own words:

Posted on 25/10/2022 by

ITC’s Business of Tourism Academies offer high school students the chance to begin their travel and tourism studies early, and to earn 30 credits at level 3.

One of the great things about ITC is that we don’t just offer tourism and travel credits for those who have finished high school. In fact, our Business of Tourism Academy offers Year 12 and 13 students in Auckland and Whangarei the chance to earn up to 30 level 3 credits throughout their school year.

And the best part is, we’ll be offering FIVE opportunities to join our Business of Tourism Academy in 2023.
