Meet the student who came to ITC instead of Year 13 – and has already landed her dream job!

Posted on 15/10/2025 by

Ruby Wang graduated ITC in July, and is already in training to become a flight attendant!

Student Ruby Wang was at Albany Senior High School when her career advisor suggested ITC instead of continuing into year 13. Ruby had been studying travel and tourism at school and really enjoying it, and when year 13 didn’t feel like the right path for her, she took up the suggestion and came to ITC instead.

And even though she only graduated from ITC in July, she has already started training to be a flight attendant with Qantas! With such an inspiring story, we had to ask her a few questions to learn more.

How is the training going so far?

Training has been challenging, there’s a lot to learn and pushes you out of your comfort zone. But everyday I’m growing and gaining more confidence. Everyone is so supportive!

What did you learn at ITC that has been most useful for getting the role?

I think the main thing ITC helped me with was feeling prepared for the industry. They always encouraged us to be confident and professional, which really helped when it came to interviews. I also learned how important it is to look neat, make a good first impression, and still be yourself. Those little things really do make a difference.

What are you most looking forward to about working as a flight attendant?

I’m most looking forward to meeting new people and connecting with customers from all different places. I love the idea of travelling, constantly learning new things and working with different crew members each day. It’s such an exciting and dynamic environment to be part of.

What was your favourite highlight from your time at ITC?

My favourite highlight was definitely the people. The tutors and students made studying such an enjoyable experience everyone was so friendly and supportive. The learning environment was fun and positive.

How did ITC help you with the job application process?

ITC was such a huge help throughout the whole job application process. Sarndra guided me through every step she was always there supporting me. She helped me a lot with my CV and gave me all the tips, skills, and information I needed to prepare. Most importantly, she made me believe in myself, which is a big part of why I’m here today. It all happened so quickly, and I honestly never thought it would but she helped make my dream become a reality.

What is your advice for anyone thinking of working in travel and tourism?

My advice would be to just go for it and have fun with the experience. Every day in this industry is different, and you get to meet so many amazing people from all kinds of backgrounds. You’re constantly learning and growing, so keep an open mind and enjoy every moment. And if an opportunity comes up, don’t hesitate put yourself forward!

What are your ultimate career goals?

Right now, I’m focused on becoming the best flight attendant I can be and learning as much as possible. I’m still at the beginning of my journey. Becoming a flight attendant has always been my dream, so I’m really proud to have made it this far. The aviation industry has so many opportunities, and I’m looking forward to discovering where it takes me.
