ITC Marketing Director Claire Huxley recently attended An Evening with Sir Richard Branson at Auckland’s Vector Arena. Here’s what she learned from the famous entrepreneur who continues to make waves in the global airline, travel and tourism industry.

On Sunday 26 March, I was in the same room as Sir Richard Branson. Wow! I never thought I’d write those words.

I joined 2,000 of New Zealand’s movers and shakers, business leaders, Virgin fans, journalists, and curious souls to listen to Sir Richard in conversation with the Right Honourable John Key.

We couldn’t take any pictures, but I did scribble down lots of notes. I believe we can all learn a lot from this innovative entrepreneur, especially how his bold ideas are transforming the travel industry. Here are a few of my favourite takeaways from the special evening.

A day in the life of Daniel Maine – Tourism Education Tutor

Known around College for his infectious laughter and incredible style, Daniel Maine is a Tourism Education Tutor at ITC. Below, he gives us a glimpse into his daily routine.

Describe your typical day

My typical day is that no two days are the same! I could be teaching at campus one day, and the next day be soaking wet from a jetboating adventure in the Auckland Harbour. The next week I might be boarding a flight to deliver tourism courses around New Zealand – my office view changes often.

Hi, my name is Les and I am a travel addict.

I first became aware of this passion (addiction) when I was a child. I would climb to the top of a large pine tree that my dad planted in our front yard, especially on wild winter days, and pretend that I was on a ship sailing into unknown waters.
