A day in the life of Daniel Maine – Tourism Education Tutor

Meet Daniel Maine, ITC’s Tourism Education Tutor. He teaches high school students about the exciting airline, travel and tourism industry.
Known around College for his infectious laughter and incredible style, Daniel Maine is a Tourism Education Tutor at ITC. Below, he gives us a glimpse into his daily routine.
Describe your typical day
My typical day is that no two days are the same! I could be teaching at campus one day, and the next day be soaking wet from a jetboating adventure in the Auckland Harbour. The next week I might be boarding a flight to deliver tourism courses around New Zealand – my office view changes often.
I do have a morning routine, though. I usually start my day deciding what outfit to associate with my working environment wherever I may be, and of course, a mochaccino to power me through the day.
How do you stay organised?
I diarise and update my to-do list regularly. I find the more prepared I am, the more satisfying my job becomes. Plus, I accomplish a lot more!
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
I’ve got lots of favourite things about my job. I enjoy the people I work with, the students I share my passion for travel with, and definitely the fun activities I get to experience off-site.
For example, today I got to take high school students from Rotorua to experience our Intrepid Journey Short Course. We had such a fun day starting with a Flight Attendant workshop in our Airport Training Centre. AJ Hackett and their team then picked us up for a thrilling Ultimate Bungy Spectators Climb over the Harbour Bridge, followed by pizzas for lunch. We then made our way to Maritime Museum to explore why Auckland is truly ‘The City Of Sails’ and finally wooshed off for a speedy Adventure Jet Boat ride of a lifetime. Just another day in the office!
How do you unwind after a busy day?
After work it’s family time and sharing stories about our day. A nice glass of wine complements dinner sometimes.
