Want to work from home one day? Start by studying from home!

Many people love working from home for the flexibility, comfort, and lack of commute.
Working from home has become a hugely popular style of work, especially since the pandemic. And even though there are a lot of travel and tourism jobs that require you to be on site, there are also plenty that allow you to work from home some or all of the time.
From travel agents and advisors to customer service roles, there are opportunities for those in the travel and tourism industry to enjoy the perks of working from home – while still being part of this incredible industry.
Start by studying from home
One of the biggest benefits of working from home is the flexibility, which is also why so many of our students choose to earn their qualifications by studying from home.
Perhaps you don’t live anywhere near an ITC campus (or any campus!). Maybe you don’t have a car or other transport to get to college. Perhaps you already have a job you’re committed to, but want to continue your education with further study. Maybe you have family commitments or other time constraints that make it hard to commit to a normal school schedule, or regular travel that makes it hard to attend a traditional course.
Whatever the case, you can still earn an industry-recognised ITC qualification, and you can do it all online with our Study From Home portal.
If you’re unsure if you want to commit to online study without trying it first, you can always check out our online courses. These courses offer a quick, introductory-level study program on travel topics such as cabin crew, ground crew, cruising, and tour guiding, and allow you to test whether you enjoy studying online and learning about tourism – all before enrolling for a full qualification!
Working remotely
Working from home is the dream for many, as it allows for much more flexibility than traditional roles.
Our latest census data suggests that almost 20% of employed adults work mostly from home in Aotearoa, which is up massively since the last census in 2018.
Interestingly, these work from home trends are having their own impact on the travel and tourism industry. Since so many workers are now able to work remotely, some of them are taking the opportunity to travel for longer periods of time, and get work done while they’re away.
The travel industry is adapting by ensuring there are spaces where remote workers can get the job done before clocking off and going back to enjoying their beautiful travel destination.
As someone who may work remotely in the travel industry, this means you could help to plan trips for other remote workers or help them get set up to complete their tasks while on holiday, and it also means you could take extended travel breaks of your own!
