ITC students share their feedback from the recent Armageddon Expo

ITC students volunteering at the AJ Hackett attraction at the recent Armageddon Expo.
The annual Armageddon Expo is massive science fiction and fantasy fair, with highlights from comics, movies, TV, animation, and gaming.
Recently, Sales Manager for AJ Hackett Leo emailed the team at ITC asking if any students would be interested in volunteering to help out at an activation he was planning to host at the event. And we had more than a couple of volunteers!
“Stacey and Brooklyn came all the way from our campus in Whangarei to volunteer on the Sunday, Charelle and her friend Syderra snapped up Saturday even though they were supposed to be celebrating Charelles birthday that day and Xavier (an ITC graduate) and Carlos had never met before but had the best time together on the Friday. The students all had a great time and learnt so much from Leo and Sam at A J Hackett. A win win all round!” explained Employment Consultant Sarndra.
We also asked the students about their experiences, so here’s what they had to say!
Student feedback on their volunteering time with AJ Hackett
Xavier said: “My favourite part about volunteering was running the hori-bungy and pulling people back on the bungy. Also, having a good look around the Armageddon Expo was fun as well, saw lots of amazing memorabilia and fun games to play.
I learnt how to hook everyone up and to make sure they felt comfortable in the harness and what to expect.
From here I have already sent in my CV application for AJ Hackett and am eagerly waiting for their response. After that I am hoping to join the crew at Air NZ as my life job, but who knows what’ll happen until then.
Brooklyn said: “My favourite part of volunteering was being able to meet some of the team at AJ Hackett and seeing what they do other than Bungy jumps. Trying out the horizontal Bungy was also a highlight, definitely a very fun day!
Helping out at the AJ Hackett horizontal Bungy I learnt what it feels like using the Bungy cords and how strong they really are when they pull you backwards.
Volunteering definitely opened my eyes to what it would be like working with the amazing team at AJ Hackett. I’m definitely thinking of what an opportunity it would be to work at AJ Hackett once I get back from my internship in America next year.
Anyone who was thinking of volunteering should definitely give it a go. It was a lot of fun, I’d definitely help out again if I got the chance.”

Stacey wrote: “My favourite part about volunteering was seeing all the people enjoying themselves when having a go at the hori-bungy. Mainly the kids, I loved helping them and seeing the laugh and smile when they were having a go.
I learnt that adventure tourism is something so enjoyable to do as you get to help people have the time of their lives, the AJ Hackett team are extremely nice and so fun to work with.
I’m looking into doing an internship with IWH next year and after that looking for a job possibly in adventure tourism or working in a hotel.”
Of course, we also heard from Leo at AJ Hackett about what it was like to have ITC students on the team for the weekend.
“It was great having the students assisting us at the Armageddon show last weekend in Auckland.
They were able to understand a little of what we can do as an organisation; they were helpful, and full of energy.
Last year, we were lucky to have Cyrus as a volunteer at the Career Expo. Cyrus came across as a very confident, charismatic, and fast learner individual. A few months later Cyrus joined our team, and is now part of the AJ Hackett Bungy whanau. We came across very competent individuals last weekend, who will hopefully join our team in the near future.”
