ITC sees off Disney students with special morning tea

Posted on 18/07/2017 by

Disney World here they come! These excited ITC students will start their Disney Cultural Exchange Program next month. ITC put on a special morning tea today to celebrate their upcoming trip.

Last month, ITC received the exciting news that 14 talented graduates have been accepted to participate in the Disney Cultural Exchange Program.

The graduates are heading to Disney World in August to live and work at the amazing Disney Resort, where they’ll gain valuable work experience and meet other exchange participants from around the world.

Today, the College put on a special Disney Morning Tea to celebrate.

“We invited all of the graduates back to College to celebrate their upcoming trip,” says ITC Employment Consultant Cathy Alder.

“This was also a great chance for everyone to see each other again before they get on the plane. We are so proud of every single graduate and we know this experience will be an amazing start to their tourism careers.”

An opportunity of a lifetime

The buzz in the room at the morning tea was one of excitement and anticipation.

“I’m really excited about everything!” says one graduate, Sharon Beardsmore.

“Working in the parks, being in another country, meeting people who love Disney as much as I do… I can’t wait to be part of the Disney magic, to help create a wonderful experience for park guests.”

Sharon described the application process as “nail-biting” as there was quite a lot of paperwork, but that ITC was a huge help.

“Not only did ITC help me fill out the forms (thank you Sarndra!), but my tutors were exceptional in the lead-up to my Disney interview. They helped me go over all my skills and strengths so that I was prepared,” says Sharon.

Tips for applying for the Disney Cultural Exchange Program

Sharon learned a lot throughout the application process and has some tips for anyone thinking about applying for the program.

“My main tip is that it’s a very good idea to have a job before you go. Partly because of the experience a job will give you, but also because the exchange is going to cost a lot – from visa costs to program fees to flights and insurance. You’ll also need to have some money for the first couple of weeks to support yourself until you receive your first Disney pay,” she says.

It may come with some costs, but according to Sharon, it’s worth every cent.

“You’ll never get another chance to do this particular exchange program. There are parts of the application process that seem like a lot of work, but it’s well worth it in the end.”

Sharon also adds that the interview with Disney is fun, relaxed, and nothing to be scared of.

“Don’t stress about the interview! The Disney people are so lovely and relaxed, they really just want to get to know you. They will ask you about your studies, if you’ve got any work experience, and will ask you about what roles you’d like at Disney and why. Show enthusiasm, show how excited you are, and you will do great.”

Want to live and work in Disney World? You can apply for the Disney Cultural Exchange Program with ITC’s support after you’ve studied with ITC for at least one year (and successfully completed your course).
