What are your plans for after your school ball?

Once the school ball is over, what happens next?
It’s school ball season, which typically means everyone is talking about what they’re wearing, who they’re going with, how they’re getting there, and what they’re doing immediately after the ball.
But what about after that?
For some students, attending year 13 is all about the school ball, but the motivation and interest just isn’t there after the event. If you’re still turning up but not paying attention and not interested in finishing the year, remember that there are other options.
Starting a career in travel and tourism
The main thing is not to waste that precious time you have. Even if you feel that leaving school early is the best option for you, it’s best to have a plan for what you’ll do instead, so you don’t lose your momentum.
One fantastic option is to earn a qualification that will get you a foot in the door for the travel and tourism industry. If you’ve ever been on a trip and loved the lifestyle of a flight attendant, or the outdoor workplace of a tour guide, or the friendly, helpful nature of a front desk person – don’t forget that you could work in one of those jobs too!
The tourism industry employs more than 300,000 Kiwis, and there’s a huge variety of jobs available, so there will always be something that will match your interests.
Study options with ITC
ITC is an industry-recognised college that provides valuable qualifications for anyone looking to get into a career in travel and tourism. But we’re more than that, too – we also offer our students regular opportunities to meet with industry experts, and chances to gain work experience, which often leads to job offers for our graduates.
One of our most popular courses is the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism with a Strand in Aviation (Level 3). This is a fantastic entry-level qualification for anyone wanting to become a flight attendant, or to work in an airport. Plus, the next class begins next week on May 19, so get in touch if you’d like to join it!
Another great option is the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism with a strand in Tourism and Travel (Level 3). This course is more of a general introduction into the industry, and could result in job opportunities anywhere in the industry. This course is enrolling now, and will begin in just a couple of months on July 28, which could be the perfect amount of time to finish up your high school studies and get ready to start your new journey.
One of the best parts of studying with us is that these courses are just 20 weeks long, which means you’ll finish up later in the year, just like you would have if you stayed in school. You’ll be graduating just as summer is getting started, which is when all the tourism operators will need new staff to work the busy tourist season!
We’d love to chat!
