Last month, two students from the International Travel College of New Zealand (ITC) won tickets to attend Discussing Tourism Auckland, an informative event hosted by Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA). Below, one of the lucky students – Meleane Teu – shares three key things she learned on the day.

ITC Level 5 students are pictured with Tourism New Zealand chief executive Kevin Bowler at the recent Tourism New Zealand Roadshow, held at SKYCITY Hotel and Convention Centre.

A selection of tourism students from the International Travel College (ITC) recently attended the Tourism New Zealand Roadshow in Auckland, where they had the good fortune to mingle with several industry leaders.

Held at the SKYCITY Hotel and Convention Centre, the Roadshow included updates from Tourism New Zealand, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED), Service IQ and more.

ITC tutor Inder Singh took some of his Level 5 students to the event so they could benefit from the knowledge and expertise of top industry professionals.

“The Tourism New Zealand Auckland Roadshow was an excellent opportunity for students to hear first-hand about the Tourism 2025 goals,” says Inder.

Overseas visitors hit 3 million milestone

The number of overseas visitors to New Zealand surpassed 3 million for the first time ever late last week, Statistics New Zealand revealed. From July 2014 to July 2015, a record-breaking 3,002,982 visitors entered the country – a 7 per cent increase from the year before.

Statistics New Zealand population statistics senior manager Vina Callum said increased arrivals from markets such as Australia and China helped achieve this important milestone.

For more coverage about this milestone, and how it relates to the Tourism 2025 goals, see these statements from the Tourism Industry Association and Tourism New Zealand.
