Meet the graduate who just landed a job in Cabin Crew with Emirates!

ITC graduate Lynelle looking spectacular in her official uniform.

We recently received an email from an ITC graduate with some of our favourite news to hear: “I had my last day of training yesterday and I’ve successfully passed everything. I’ve got my roster already and I start flying next week Thursday.”

That was from Lynelle Fisilau, a graduate who has been working incredibly hard to achieve her dreams of working in cabin crew.

First, we asked Lynelle’s tutor Inder for his thoughts on Lynelle’s journey:

“I know Lynelle will be a great role model for a flight attendant. We did a mock interview and interview techniques with her. She told me most of the questions asked in the interview were similar to the mock interview. I am really proud of Lynelle and I am sure she will be a valuable asset for Emirates.”

Naturally, we couldn’t wait to hear from Lynelle!

What were your goals when you first decided to start studying tourism?

Going into the tourism industry I definitely had a goal in mind to one day become a flight attendant as well as explore other opportunities in the industry if my first option didn’t work out.

My parents had always talked about back up plans and dreams if things didn’t work out. A strong support system at home is super important. The tourism industry is just much more than travelling the world but you get to embrace the person you are and broaden your perspective of discovering new cultures, and foster personal growth. This allows me to create lasting memories, build connections with people from different backgrounds, and gain a deeper understanding of how the world works around you.

What do you think ITC does that sets us apart from other education providers?

ITC played a big role in motivating me to have that mindset to accomplish my goals that I had set. ITC is very family oriented where I felt comfortable to embrace myself and root for my colleagues to reach expectations that this industry requires of us.

ITC hits different for me from other education providers because they offer a specialised focus on the tourism and hospitality industries. They emphasize hands-on learning, real-world experience, and provide students with skills that directly apply to the workforce where I was able to implement during my cabin crew training in Dubai.

I enjoyed my time studying at ITC with so many memories that I’ll always cherish, the tutors, staff and students became family and we were able to endure to the end together.

How did ITC support you as you applied to work at Emirates?

Attending the Emirates Cabin Crew Open day in October was something that I had the courage to do last minute with not a strong CV at all, nothing but faith and dedication hoping it was enough for me to get through.

I know without a doubt in my mind and heart that serving a full time mission in the Philippines as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is what got me to where I am today because that was the only stable customer service experience I’ve had and I’m beyond grateful!

Although Emirates has always been my dream airline but I didn’t think much of it until I approached this with my tutor and staff at ITC the day before. They were able to give me advice, helped me with my CV and how to present myself as I take this step.

What are you most excited about for your new career?

What I’m excited for in this new career is being able to connect with different people and applying the sacred principles I learnt growing up with my family and just being able to hopefully put a smile on every face that I encounter on the aircraft.

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to study travel and tourism?

ITC is awesome and they have such a strong support system where I do recommend and encourage anyone looking into studying travel and tourism to go for it.

Stay curious and open-minded. Immerse yourself in different cultures, travel whenever possible, and always seek to understand how tourism impacts people and places. Trust that this industry teaches you principles and skills where you will gain and use for the rest of your life.

Future students: Are you dreaming of working in cabin crew like Lynelle?

Many ITC students come to us dreaming of working in cabin crew, travelling the world and meeting people as part of their everyday jobs.

We offer the foundational training that you need to work in cabin crew, and many of our graduates go on to work for airlines here in New Zealand and around the world.

Take a look at the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism with a strand in Tourism and Travel to learn more about the course that helped Lynelle get to where she is now, and get in touch with any questions!
