Meet Esther, our dedicated Schools Coordinator

Posted on 07/08/2025 by

ITC leads in delivering Tourism Resources, Experiences, Short Courses and so much more.  Seniors can experience tourism or aviation and make an informed choice for a potential tourism or airline career. We have a team of dedicated people, we like to call the ‘Schools Team’.

We consistently receive amazing feedback about our quick turn around of our schools products and services.  When you reach out to our dedicated schools team for support you’ll have the pleasure of emailing our Schools Coordinator, Esther.  Esther takes pride in all she does to help schools receive all they need in a timely fashion.  Read more to learn a little more about our amazing Esther Johnston.

How did you begin your journey with ITC?

I’ve always been a bit of an admin guru – starting original in a law office, then moving to non-profit, followed by time in the head off of a FMCG company.  I took a couple of years off to raise my two girls.  ITC was looking for a team member to join the Schools Team that could do 15 hours per week, mostly working from home.  At that stage my girls were in kindy and I was getting bored so thought it would be the perfect time to start back into the work environment .
What does your role look like in the schools team?

I still work part time for ITC; 20 hours per week.  During these hours I handle most of the communication between the Gateway and Careers Departments; booking short courses, processing resource orders, invoicing and any other jobs the Schools Co-ordination role demands of me.

What do you think your role does to help support schools in NZ?

My role helps keep the communication lines open between Schools and our Team.  I endeavour to answer most emails within 24 hours and if I can’t deliver the answer in that time, let them know when I will have time to focus on the request.   By being the main contact person, I am able to help our awesome Tutors focus on the students and their time with ITC.

What do you love about your role at ITC?

Having completed 10 years with ITC earlier this year, I have loved that my role has allowed me to work remotely and still be there for my family as they’ve grown.  I have also loved the great support our team offers each other.   We couldn’t do it without each other and are therefore as part of the team, are able to offer the best product we can to the schools across New Zealand.

Where do you see the ITC In Schools business going in future?

2025 has been a year of great expansion for ITC.  We have seen growth in our products and services, with more Short Course and resources provided to Schools across NZ.   There seems to a rising passion in the students to see what Travel and Tourism can offer them as they look to the future.   From here I’d love to see ITC have a campus again in Christchurch and a new one in Wellington.

Our Schools Team  work with high schools around Aotearoa to help offer valuable travel and tourism courses. These courses help to lighten the load of teachers and school administrators, while giving students a fun way to earn NCEA credits and discover their interest in the industry!
