Meet Apii Tavioni: The graduate who landed a great role with Go Holidays

Posted on 04/10/2023 by

Apii in her role at Helloworld.

Like many of our students, Apii Tavioni first learned about ITC through our high school short courses. That led to an interest in travel and tourism, and now she’s working in an incredible job with Go Holidays!

We recently asked her a few questions about her journey, and Employment Consultant Sarndra Stephens also offered her excitement for Apii.

Why did you choose to study with ITC?

I chose to study at ITC, because back in high school I was doing the short courses for my tourism classes. I really enjoyed what ITC offered in a short period of time, which made me very interested in the subject.

What was it like to be an ITC student? Do you have a favourite memory?

Being an ITC student was an amazing experience.

Where do I start with a favourite memory? I could say when doing group projects and getting to know my peers, or when taking a risk and for the first time bungy jumping off the harbour bridge.

How did ITC support you as you applied to work at Go Holidays?

At first, it was challenging as I did take a year gap. But working at Go Holidays really jogged my memory in the tourism industry.

What are you most excited about for your new job?

What is most exciting about my job at Go Holidays is the working environment and my colleagues who help me succeed in my workplace.

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to study travel and tourism?

Tourism is booming with opportunities after COVID, so take the risk to get out and grab what the tourism industry offers.

Employment Consultant Sarndra weighs in

Our city Employment consultant, Sarndra Stephens had the following to say.

I am incredibly proud of Apii. Studying in 2021 was challenging due to the covid lockdowns and restrictions in place, and Apii worked hard to overcome any obstacles and graduate at the end of her course.

Apii decided to take a gap year as she was unsure what the industry was doing and after a year working at a lovely spa she contacted me to let me know she wanted to get into the industry she trained for and was open to opportunities.

We talked about Go Holidays and she liked the sound of the  Wholesale Consultant role. We were able to send her CV directly and she got an interview quite quickly, and the rest as we say is history. Apii has a bright career ahead of her.

ITC’s Ceri Jenkins adds his thoughts

On a regular basis I reach out to high schools to inform them of their past students who have graduated with us and then the tourism role they have gained through ITC in tourism.

The response form Apii’s school, Mangere College, was one of pride and wishing to celebrate her success: “We are very proud of what she has achieved with your organisation, can you please forward a picture of Apii at work so we can share her success in the schools latest newsletter.”

Informing schools of the student’s success is very important in terms of showing students currently studying at those schools the career pathways that can be ahead for them in our amazing industry and provide them something to aspire to.
