Meet Anetta: ITC’s newest family member!

Anetta has a fantastic travel and tourism background, and can’t wait to share it with students!
Anetta Kusa is ITC’s newest family member, where she has recently joined as the Academic & Quality Manager.
Adding to the team’s array of experience, Anetta brings her own history of travel and tourism adventures. She started out in Poland, and has now spent more than 20 years here in Aotearoa!
Read on to learn more about her background, experience, and advice for ITC students!
How did you begin your passion for education?
I’m originally from Poland, and driven by a lifelong curiosity about the world, I spent my early years travelling extensively around Europe. Eventually, I wanted to explore places far, far away. New Zealand certainly fit the bill as it sits literally on the opposite side of the planet from where I grew up!
I often joke that if I kept travelling just a little further, I’d start looping back to my hometown. I arrived in Aotearoa more than 20 years ago, drawn by the outdoors, the sea, and the awesome Kiwi lifestyle. It completely won me over and very quickly became my home.
What does your employment history look like?
My passion for education started early. I’ve always believed that learning is transformative. It builds confidence and opens doors to paths you never knew existed. I strongly value lifelong learning and try to lead by example.
Not long ago, I returned to study to complete my Postgraduate degree. It is quite challenging but also energising, and it serves as a great reminder of exactly what our students go through (including all those deadlines!).
What was your favourite job you’ve done (aside from your new role at ITC!)?
Throughout my career I’ve focused on academic quality, programme development, and student support. My favourite roles have always been the ones where I get to work closely with learners, cheering them on, watching their confidence grow, and celebrating those lightbulb moments.
How will your experience help support ITC (including our students)?
At ITC, I’m looking forward to contributing to our strong academic standards, keeping our processes smooth, and helping create an environment where both staff and students feel encouraged and supported.
Outside of work, I’m an outdoors person through and through. You’ll often find me cycling, kayaking, or finding basically any excuse to get out on the water. I also absolutely love music, though I’m known for unintentionally giving people earworms—apparently, I have a “special” talent for getting a tune stuck in someone’s head!
What is your best advice for those who are thinking of gaining qualifications?
Just start. Invest in yourself. Learning expands your world in ways you may not expect. Stay curious, be brave, take that first step, and trust that the journey will lead somewhere meaningful.
As Frank Zappa once said ‘A mind is like a parachute. It only works if it is open.’
Enjoy your Journey!
