Kiwi Link India strengthens tourism relations in Mumbai
Kiwi Link India, an annual trade event organised by Tourism New Zealand, has just taken place in Mumbai (July 11-13). The purpose of the event is to create and strengthen tourism relationships between trade operators in New Zealand and overseas travel agents, planners and product managers.
Over 30 New Zealand tourism operators attended the event, and met with 80 Indian delegates over the weekend.
Tourism New Zealand chief executive, Kevin Bowler, explains why events such as this are so important.
“Having a well-informed travel trade is critical to converting interest into bookings. This event provides an ideal platform for us to strengthen relations with our stakeholders in the Indian travel trade, supporting their ability to sell travel to New Zealand, particularly during the shoulder seasons.”

Tourism spending continues to soar
The Ministry of Business has just released the latest regional tourism figures, and it’s good news all round. Tourism spend is continuing to rise around the country.
In Northland, spend is nearing $1 billion for the year to May, currently sitting at a total of $932 million.
Further south, the figures are also looking good, with spend now up to $650 million for the year in Southland. In 2009, that number was just over $477 million, which shows an increase of 27 per cent in the last seven years.
However, it isn’t Northland or Southland that’s the fastest growing in terms of tourism spend, but Otago, which increased by 10 per cent since last year and has now reached $3.2 billion.
