Changes to the Jobseeker benefit are coming in November of this year, which may make it harder for some 18 and 19 year olds to receive support during their job search.
That might mean that some of you are looking at other options instead – such as studying travel and tourism!
And whether you’re fresh out of high school, or are already in a career and are looking for a change, or even if you’re simply wanting to upskill in your current career, ITC could help.
What could you do instead of work?
If you’ve finished high school and aren’t sure what you want to do next, looking for work isn’t your only option.
You could use this time to start building skills and working towards a qualification that can help you enter an industry you’re interested in.
Travel and tourism is a great option if you enjoy working with people, discovering new places, solving problems or working in a fast-paced environment. There are also plenty of different career paths to explore, from travel and tourism operations to customer service, aviation, accommodation, events and more.
That said, not all of our graduates go on to work in travel and tourism. So many of the skills you learn with us are useful for other industries, such as communication, problem-solving, and customer service. That’s why these qualifications are so valuable, even if you don’t end up in a travel or tourism role.
You don’t have to be fresh out of high school
While many ITC students are recent high school leavers, they certainly aren’t the only people who study with us.
We also welcome people who are changing careers, looking to improve their employment prospects, or are simply ready to try something different.
Our Study From Home option also means you can study online, giving you the flexibility to earn your qualification no matter where you are in Aotearoa. You can even study online part-time, and therefore continue work or other life commitments while you study.
Not sure if you meet our entry requirements?
When it comes to enrolling with ITC, we ask that students have completed Level 2 at high school.
However, if you haven’t quite made it that far, we’d still love to chat. We can also accept students who have other life experience, so we may still be able to enrol you and get you on track towards a qualification in travel and tourism.
So don’t discount yourself if you don’t quite tick all the boxes. We’d still love to meet you and see if we can make it work.
