Back at school, but not sure it’s the best place for you?

Not sure if high school is the best place for you this year? There are other options!
It’s that time of year again when high school seniors go back to class. Some of them are excited to be back with friends and looking forward to their final year of study. Some others will be sitting in the same classes feeling like it’s simply not the place for them.
If that sounds like you, keep in mind that you are now a young adult, and can carefully consider this decision for yourself.
Trying another path
Dropping out of school has a bad reputation, and we certainly know that most parents aren’t keen on the idea. However, that’s only really when the student doesn’t have another path in mind.
When you have an alternative plan, it feels less like ‘dropping out’, and more like choosing the right path for you. It’s also a much easier conversation to have with parents!
For some of our students, that path is leaving high school and enrolling at ITC. Our entry requirements ask that you have achieved NCEA level 2, or can demonstrate suitable literacy and numeracy skills. If you’re unsure if you’re eligible, don’t hesitate to get in touch to chat through your options.
Your journey with ITC
It can be hard to make a big decision, especially when it’s probably one of the first times you’ve ever made a decision that could change the course of your life.
One option is to sign up for one of our ITC Online Training options. You can study Cabin Crew, Ground Crew, Cruise, Tour Guiding, or Winning With Customers Online. Each one offers a chance to dip your toes into studying travel and tourism with us, see if you enjoy the subject material, and see if you could imagine yourself working in one of those roles one day.
For students who don’t live near one of our campuses (Auckland City, Whangarei, or Botany), you also have the option of earning one of our industry-recognised qualifications entirely from your own home. Our Study From Home portal offers the same courses as we provide on campus, but are ideal for those unable to move for their studies.
Finally, don’t forget that our ITC crew is incredibly supportive. We’re a small college, and our tutors take the time to get to know each student, so you’ll never be just another face in the class. We provide support for our students in a variety of ways, so you’ll feel welcomed and at home at ITC.
