Why Learning from Industry Experts Makes All the Difference

Posted on 12/08/2026 by

We think we have the best team in the world!

When you’re choosing where to study, it’s standard to compare courses, qualifications and campuses. But there’s one thing that can completely transform your learning experience: The people teaching you.

At ITC, we believe the best education comes from people who have actually lived it.

What makes our team at ITC different

Our tutors, managers, employment consultants and support team have built careers across airlines, airports, hotels, tourism businesses, travel agencies and hospitality organisations around New Zealand and the world. They’ve checked in passengers, managed hotels, sold holidays, trained teams, led businesses and travelled extensively (and more).

That means they’re not just teaching from a textbook – they’re teaching from experience.

Almost 200 years of combined industry experience

Together, our team brings more than 187 years of travel and tourism industry experience into our classrooms. Every lesson is enriched with real-life stories, practical knowledge and insider tips that simply can’t be found online.

Students love hearing about what really happens behind the scenes in the industry.

  • What is it like working for an airline?
  • How do you impress employers?
  • What do recruiters actually look for?
  • How do you handle challenging customers?

Our team has been there, done that, and they’re passionate about sharing what they’ve learned.

Not to mention, many of our staff started in exactly the same place as our students. Some dreamed of becoming cabin crew, while others backpacked the world before building careers in tourism. Some worked their way through hotels, attractions, travel companies and airports before discovering their passion for helping others succeed.

That means they understand what it’s like to take that first step into the industry, and they know how to help students get there.

It’s not always just what you know, but who you know

One of the biggest advantages of studying at ITC is our strong industry network.

Our team has worked throughout the travel and tourism sector, which means they’ve built genuine relationships with employers across New Zealand and internationally.

Those connections help create opportunities for students, from guest speakers and industry visits to internships, interviews and employment opportunities after graduation. Plus, these connections continue to grow, as we maintain contact with our graduates who go on to work in amazing roles around the country (our graduates are truly everywhere!).

Plus, our Employment Team works closely with students to prepare professional CVs, build interview confidence and connect graduates with exciting roles.

Support that goes beyond the classroom

At ITC, you’re never just another number.

Whether you’re studying on campus or online, our team genuinely wants every student to succeed. We’ll always be here to support you with assignments, offer career advice, coach you through an interview practice, and check over your CV.

Many of our students tell us it’s the encouragement, personal support and positive relationships they’ve built with our staff that made the biggest difference during their studies.

Your future starts right here at ITC

Qualifications are important, but the people who help you earn them can make all the difference.

At ITC, you’ll be guided by industry professionals who have turned their own travel dreams into careers, and who are now dedicated to helping you do exactly the same.

Learn more about our amazing team here, and if you’re ready to learn from people who’ve been there, done that, and still love the industry today, we’d love to welcome you to the ITC whānau.
