How did you begin your passion for the tourism industry?

My passion began with my Mum. She was a beautiful flight attendant for the Royal Tongan Airlines in the 1980-90’s – once the proud national carrier of Tonga. Growing up, I loved hearing about the stories of travelers and the unique cultures they encountered. I was curious about how people connect with different places and how living in New Zealand we experience just a small portion of the worlds extremely diverse and beautiful culture. My curiosity grew into a desire to learn more about these fascinating places and help people explore the world in meaningful ways.

What does your travel industry history look like?

Finishing high school I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do but I knew I loved geography and I loved the idea of travelling and making new connections with people and different cultures. This led me to dive into my Bachelor of International Tourism and Business Management at AUT, graduating in 2016. My experience was amazing and only encouraged me more to pursue a career in the travel industry.
As a student I was also working as a Food & Beverage Attendant at the Rydges Hotel, Auckland CBD before landing a travel consultant role at Concentrix making travel reservations for Air New Zealand customers. A bit further into my career I decided I wanted to broaden my skill set and moved on to facilitating/ teaching Level 3 Travel & Tourism at Best Youth Academy, Best Pacific. It was in this role that I found my passion to help and inspire young people to achieve their potential, find their passion and believe they can create for themselves the future they’ve always dreamed of. Seeing someone thrive because of your encouragement is why I love doing what I do here at ITC.
