ITC students impress industry at NZ Tourism Awards in Chch
Tourism students from the International Travel College (ITC) made an excellent impression in front of industry at the New Zealand Tourism Awards in Christchurch earlier this month.
Several students volunteered at the awards, giving their time to help Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) run a smooth, seamless event.
“We were so impressed. We could not have asked for more pleasant and switched on volunteers,” says Trina Edwards, TIA Events & Marketing Specialist.
“All were on time, immaculately dressed, enthusiastic and ready to help with whatever they were asked.”
Ruby Wade, ITC Travel & Tourism Tutor (Christchurch campus), says the students had a wonderful time at the awards.
“They all had a such a great time and came away feeling super excited about their future in the industry.”
The New Zealand Tourism Awards are one of the most prestigious events on the NZ tourism calendar.
The 2018 awards were attended by more than 400 industry leaders and supporters. Winners on the night included Air New Zealand, Tourism Holdings, Sudima Hotels and Resorts, Kapiti Island Nature Tours, Hawke’s Bay Tourism, Christchurch Airport, GO Rentals, and Forgotten World Adventures.
Volunteering at the awards was an amazing experience for ITC students and opened their eyes to the types of careers available in the tourism industry.
Ms Edwards says she is already looking forward to engaging more ITC volunteers for TRENZ 2020.
ITC arranges volunteer and work experience opportunities for students across all campuses (Auckland, Christchurch, and Whangarei). The College combines tourism theory with practical learning, such as on-the-job experience, role plays, and industry visits.
