Growing domestic travel to support NZ economy

The Tourism Industry Association (TIA) is pleased to see New Zealand travel companies such as AA Traveller promoting the growth of domestic tourism.

Earlier this week AA Traveller launched a new campaign and website called ‘Great Spot Specials’ which offers a way for Kiwis to book local travel at great discounted rates. The site features exclusive deals for AA members and AA Smartfuel card holders.

TIA chief executive Chris Roberts said the timing of this new campaign couldn’t be better.

“Easter traditionally marks the end of the peak tourism season. We are delighted that AA Traveller is encouraging Kiwis to see their own backyard through this autumn and winter,” Mr Roberts said.

Auckland beats Gold Coast for Easter destination

According to new data from Skyscanner, Auckland is a more popular Easter holiday destination for Aussies than places such as the Gold Coast and Perth.

Senior marketing manager for Skyscanner Australia and New Zealand, Emily Callahan, said Auckland has been showing strong growth for a while now.

“Auckland has been recording strong increases in visitors from around the world and our data supports how it is also popular amongst locals and Aussies this Easter,” says Emily.

“Travellers may be taking this opportunity to visit the city with key events like the Waiheke International Jazz Festival 2016 and the Auckland Royal Easter Show happening concurrently.”
