ITC Industry Expo connects students with inspiring industry reps

The KiwiRail team at their booth at our recent Industry Expo.
One of the many perks of studying with ITC is the regular opportunity to meet with those in the industry, make connections, and gain real-world knowledge of the roles available in travel and tourism.
The annual ITC Industry Expo is just one of those opportunities, as it invites employers to talk about their workplaces, the roles available, and what it’s like to work there. It’s an event that all current and past students are invited to, and one that always results in incredible feedback from the students and employers alike.

Feedback from students
When we asked students about their favourite employer to speak to, the responses were split evenly between them all, highlighting just how beneficial it is to welcome such an array of speakers.
“Auckland Airport and Swissport Passenger Service Agent since they had advertised about the different types of job roles they offer and they gave me an idea of what it’s like to work within the airport as I found the information really interesting that made me feel inspired to work with one of these employers,” said one student.
“Intrepid – I love the fact that they offer so many different job opportunities in so many different countries, and Maritime, because I love all animals and this allows you to learn more about our marine life, and you get to teach that to people who share that common interest,” said another.
We also asked if the event helped students make a career choice.
“It has inched me closer into what sector of the industry I want to work in. Hotels is the area I want to work in the future because it’s not only a fun area, it is filled with different areas at which you can start with to develop your work career, from housekeeping or food & beverage and many others. You can learn new skills and also develop knowledge about different people.”
“Yes, the day really helped me think about my career path. Listening to the different speakers gave me insight into what it’s actually like to work in those jobs.”
“Yes, I loved learning about other tourism industries and how different they are to each other.”
ITC for travel and tourism qualifications that go beyond the classroom
At ITC, there’s so much more than what you learn in the classroom. Events like the Industry Expo are a huge part of that. We also have regular guest speakers, experiences where students visit local brands, as well as a team of ITC tutors, Employment Consultants, and other staff who all have experience in the industry.
