ITC congratulates the Travel Agents Association of NZ (TAANZ) winners!

Posted on 13/06/2024 by

Congratulations to the 2024 TAANZ winners, and to the industry as a whole for its comeback!

One of the many reasons the International Travel College (ITC) is so good at providing qualifications and certifications to students across Aotearoa is thanks to our industry connections and involvement.

In other words, we don’t just teach travel and tourism – we live it.

That’s why we’re so excited to congratulate the recent winners of the Travel Agents Association of New Zealand (TAANZ) winners!

This year’s TAANZ winners

This year, the big winner is Jim Murphy of Pukekohe Travel, who entered the TAANZ Hall of Fame. Additionally, Pukekohe Travel also did very well in various other awards selection by travel suppliers.

Favourite air supplier went to Singapore Airlines, and best account manager went to Megan Hornblow of Globus Family of Brands. Globus Family of Brands also took out the top spot for favourite land, touring or cruise operator.

As for the supplier awards, Guy Flynn of the NZ Travel Brokers won the Air New Zealand lifetime achievement award.

Why it’s such an important event in 2024

This year, 2024, is the first year these awards have been held after being put on hold for the pandemic. With border closures and travel interruptions since then, it has been a long five years for many, but especially those in the travel industry.

With the awards making a triumphant return at last, it’s yet another signal that the travel and tourism industry is not only back – but that it’s also thriving.

“This is now a thriving industry that is having the best years it has ever had,“ explained Brent Thomas, president of the Travel Agents Association of NZ (Taanz).

Barely a week goes by without an exciting new headline about the return of the travel and tourism industry. For example, UN Tourism recently reported a 97% recovery rate last year, with a full rebound in tourism GDP. Not to mention, the group is anticipating 2024 figures to exceed those of 2019.

This is all incredibly exciting news for anyone working in the industry, and especially for those looking to study with ITC and graduate at a time when travel and tourism providers are demanding qualified workers all over the world.
