Highlights from the 2017 ITC Graduation at the Langham

Posted on 08/08/2017 by

ITC staff and students showcase their culture at the 2017 Graduation ceremony.

Every year, the International Travel College holds a glamorous graduation ceremony at the Langham Hotel in Auckland. This special event is a chance to celebrate every new ITC graduate – and it’s always a night to remember.

This year, the ceremony was held on the evening of Friday 21st July. The theme was ‘Your Culture’, where everyone dressed up as something from their own country. As always, everyone made an amazing effort – the array of colours and costumes was nothing short of spectacular.

Here are some highlights from the evening.

Culture and canapes

Everyone mingled over canapes and drinks, served by Langham staff, before the official graduation ceremony began. This was a wonderful opportunity to socialise, admire everyone’s costumes, and meet friends and family.

Edgewater College Kapa Haka

The incredibly talented Edgewater College Kapa Haka group officially opened the ceremony at 7.30pm with an amazing performance. The group has been performing at ITC graduations for many years, and always wows the audience.

Guest speakers

This year, guests heard from ITC Diploma student – and last year’s Student of the Year – Sam Mooney, as well as her boss DC from STRAY.

Sam spoke about how her time at ITC helped her gain confidence and prepared her for life in the tourism industry. Her key message to graduates was to make the most of every opportunity that comes your way, because you never know where it might lead.

DC spoke about STRAY, a tour guide company that strays away from typical tourist attractions so visitors can experience a country’s hidden treasures. He also gave graduates an acronym to follow when out in the industry, SEE, which stands for: Smile, Eye Contact, and Enthusiasm.

Special award winners

At the end of the ceremony, several high-performing students were recognised for their special contributions to the College:

Academic Excellence: Kelly Gastaldi (City) and Amy Ha (Botany)
College Life: Viena Arona (City) and Evelina Vincent (Botany)
Student of the Year: Olga Malakhova (City) and Sarah Collins (Botany)
