Meet an inspiring Level 4 Study From Home Student: Savannah Larkin!

Savannah Larkin is studying our Level 4 certificate from home, all while still working!
Savannah Larkin went to Mountainview High School in Timaru, so when she wanted to begin studying for a qualification in Travel and Tourism, she didn’t have a huge range of options.
That’s when she discovered Study From Home, and was inspired by another online learner who graduated with us before landing her dream job. Savannah is now studying our Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Travel – all during her downtime from her job!
Here’s what she had to say about the experience.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello! I am Savannah Larkin and I am based in the South Island in Timaru. I enjoy travelling and walking various tracks around New Zealand.
Before studying at ITC, I was studying at Ara doing a human resource qualification and working in between study.
What were your barriers to studying on campus?
The barriers were that I was based down in the South Island and I wanted to stay where I was.
What are your career goals after completing study?
I would love to become a flight attendant for Air New Zealand and I’m quite keen to do a working holiday to Australia.
What appealed to you most about online study?
I loved how there was a study from home option. It meant that I could stay at home and work as well and study towards my qualification.
What advice would you give someone starting out?
Just go for it!!! You won’t regret it. I know when I was thinking about studying at ITC, I had this exciting feeling about it every day and if you have that same feeling as what I had, then this is your time.
What does a typical study week look like for you?
I had work 4 days a week (Mon, Thurs, Fri and Sat), so Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday were my study days.
How did you find the support from the tutors?
I found the support from the tutors really good and helpful. They supported me throughout my course and made sure I had all the information I needed for each paper. I felt really supported when I was doing the Amadeus paper and I found it quite hard and they assured me that I’d get through it and not to stress!
What inspired you to do a career in travel and tourism?
I have always loved travelling and learning about tourism in high school and I have wanted to become a flight attendant for a while now. When I was in high school I did a short course in Christchurch with Toni (tutor) and I really enjoyed it. I was also inspired by Ruby Roche’s story of becoming a flight attendant and how she got to her dream job.
A few extra reviews from Google
