“Your dream job is worth the wait” says ITC graduate
Finding your dream travel or tourism job might take a few years, but ITC graduate Danielle Marescia says it’s well worth the wait.
Danielle has just been offered her dream job as Cabin Crew with Virgin Australia after years of working hard and gaining customer service experience.
“My dream job has always been to become a cabin crew member,” says Danielle.
“I’m so grateful for ITC’s support. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for ITC.”
Below, Danielle shares her story and her experience of ITC, so you might learn from her journey.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I am 22 years old. I was born in South Africa and I moved to New Zealand in 2006 with my mum and twin brother. I went to Westlake Girls High School, where I studied travel and tourism. I have always had a passion for travel and exploring the world and meeting people from all walks of life.
What inspired you to study at ITC?
My mum actually did distance learning with ITC Study From Home. Every day, I would come home from school and sit beside her and watch her study. It was so amazing to watch her learn about different countries. I thought to myself, ‘I want to study there one day’, so when I finished high school I applied. I was so happy when they accepted me into the course.
What did you enjoy most about studying at ITC?
I enjoyed everything at ITC, from meeting my classmates to the amazing tutors. It was amazing to see how we all worked together to achieve the same goal. I loved how the tutors were all so supportive — they never gave up on us. If we were finding something hard, they would explain it in a way we would all understand. I also enjoyed all the events, from the Amazing Race to field trips.
Can you give us a brief summary of your career history?
After graduating from ITC, it did take me awhile to get into the travel industry. I worked in retail for three years gaining customer service experience. I worked as a Special Orders and Kitchen Designer for Bunnings, which I loved doing but it wasn’t my dream job. So I made the decision to leave, and that’s when I got a job as Guest Service Agent with Aerocare, doing check-ins and boarding with Virgin Australia. And now I have a few weeks until I start my dream job as Cabin Crew for Virgin Australia.
Do you have any advice for people thinking about studying at ITC?
You’re in the best place to be studying. Everyone at ITC is there to help and support you. The tutors always have their doors open. Don’t be shy. Don’t give up. Take advantage of everything you learn in class because it will help when it comes to the interviews. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for ITC.
Any final tips or words of wisdom?
It might be hard at first but don’t give up. It’s worth the wait and hard work. And it all pays off in the end when you’re in your dream job.
