Why you don’t need a 10-year career plan
Not sure where you’ll be working in ten years?
That’s totally normal – most people have no idea what they’ll be doing in a decade’s time (especially if they work in travel and tourism!).
The good news is, you don’t need a 10-year career plan. You just need to start somewhere.
The airline, travel and tourism industry is huge. There are so many opportunities and new jobs are created every year. It would be impossible to predict what type of job you might discover in 2027.
Our best advice is to be enthusiastic, stay curious and let your career surprise you.
Many people come to ITC with a set goal, such as “I want to be a flight attendant” or “I want to be the manager of a travel agency”.
These goals are awesome – and we will help you achieve them as best we can! But it’s also okay to change your mind as your career progresses.
Who knows, you might work for a few years as a flight attendant and then become a tour guide. Or maybe you will start out as a travel agent and become a tourism tutor.
You might even start your career as a cruise ship worker and then become something totally random, like a banker or a property developer!
Who knows where your interesting and unique life might take you?
The most important thing is that you get a foot in the door.
Once you have a travel and tourism qualification, you have options. You have the opportunity to find a job in this exciting industry and see where the world takes you.
So what are you waiting for?
