Meet the student with her eye on the Disney Cultural Exchange Program!
ITC students come from all over New Zealand, and have all sorts of dreams.
Mya Jorna came to us from Bream Bay College, where she did an Adventure Short Course. After that, she enrolled at our Whangarei Campus for the Level 3 and 4 Certificates in Tourism. Now, she’s eyeing up the Disney Cultural Exchange Program and all the amazing adventures and opportunities that come with it.
Here’s our quick interview to learn more about Mya’s journey so far!
How did your adventure begin with us at ITC? How did you first hear or experience our college?
I did a course with them through my high school that I loved. Then I talked to Ceri all about the courses and what it had to offer during and for the rest of my life.
My high school had a careers expo day where I was finally convinced that the course was definitely want I wanted to do.
What do you think ITC does different from other education providers?
ITC makes the learning very informative while also making it fun. I also feel like I can talk to anyone about any difficulties I am having or just ask for advice.
What is your fondest memory of ITC?
When we got to go to the careers expo that they set up for the students. it showed me that they really cared about our future and put in a lot of time and effort.
What is your next/current adventure after ITC?
When I complete the course I am doing, I am hoping to be accepted into the Disney Cultural Exchange Program and go and work in Disney world, Florida for 6 months to a year.
What will a typical day look like for you on this adventure?
A typical day will look like working around many new and exciting people and cultures, and learning so many new skills while being around the magic of Disney.
How did ITC prepare or support you for this?
They prepared me by keeping in great contact with upcoming interviews or presentations that I needed to go to. They also helped me out with any and all questions and worries that I had when putting my application in and giving me advice for interviews.
What are you excited most about your journey from here?
Being able to travel to the other side of the world and have many adventures and experiences that I can bring back home with me. Also being able to have free reign in all Disney world parks of course!
What advice do you have for others wanting to study tourism?
Definitely give everything a go and jump at all opportunities they give you.
What are your travel and tourism goals?
Do you dream of working at Disney like Mya? ITC can be the stepping stone to help get you there – and into an incredible career in travel and tourism!
