Meet the student who has blown away her tutor with her dedication and hard work
Every day, students at ITC and Study From Home impress our tutors and staff. But every now and then, we see a student go above and beyond, or make incredible achievements that blow us all away.
Recently, ITC tutor Inder Singh highlighted the inspirational journey of his student Mele Feiloakitau. Inder said that Mele has “gone the extra mile and surprised me with her admirable hard work”.
Any student who impresses a tutor that much is worth celebrating, so here’s a little more about Mele’s success story.
The student who proved that everything is possible
Mele’s success is all down to her hard work and dedication, but not only is her passion for travel and tourism helping to give her a leg up in her career – it’s also inspiring her classmates.
Tutor Inder noted that Mele completed more than 20 assignments towards the end of the course, calling this achievement “remarkable”.
“She has proved that it’s never too late, and everything is possible,” said Inder.
As a result, two of Mele’s classmates were inspired by her work, and followed in her footsteps to complete level 5. And furthermore, Mele and two classmates have been accepted into the Disney Cultural Exchange programme this year, opening many doors for their future career prospects.
Inder went on to explain that like many Kiwis, Mele struggled through the pandemic as she had to adjust to studying from home to continue her ITC coursework. Between a lack of resources and motivation, Mele struggled to keep up, but as soon as college opened again, she was back at it, working hard and staying positive throughout the course.
She would be on campus every day from 9am to 5pm – then she would go home and continue studying in the evenings and over the weekends. As a result, she completed her assignments, despite the challenges of the pandemic.
“Mele not only made me proud but also her family, too. They were so happy to see her graduate and begin her new career at Disney,” said Inder.
Mele’s story is one of overcoming obstacles with determination and hard work, and she has truly been an inspiration to her tutors, her fellow students, and her family.
Inder put it best, saying: “It makes me happy if I am able to change even a single student’s life with my support, and I will never stop helping students. I really want them to grow and celebrate their achievements, so that in 10 years when they look back, they can say “I did it!””.
Feeling inspired by Mele’s story?
When we asked Mele about her achievements, she had this incredibly inspiring thought to share:
“The greatest gift to me is seeing how proud my parents were of my achievements and seeing them happy. I’m also grateful for the enormous support system I have because they motivate and inspire me to do my absolute best. Never give up and the sky sure is the limit!”
At ITC we truly get to know our students as we support them through their studies, which is why we’re always so excited to see them succeed.
