Meet the graduate who landed the career of her dreams and loves her job every day

Posted on 06/06/2023 by

Graduate Lillie dreamed of being a flight attendant – and is now flying high in her dream job!

Many ITC and Study From Home students begin study with us with the goal of working as a flight attendant.

Botany graduate Lillie Robinson is a great example. She began studying with us with flight attending in mind, and while her tutors ensured she knew about the many other great options in the industry, they also supported her in her work to become a flight attendant.

Today, we’re excited to see Lillie succeed, as she graduated from ITC and went on to land a flight attending role with Qantas – and is now loving her job!

Read on to learn more about Lillie’s time with us and her new dream job.

What were your goals when you first decided to start studying tourism?

When I first started studying travel and tourism with ITC in 2022 my goal was to get my level 3 and 4 certificate and leave with a career as a flight attendant. The tutors encouraged me with my goal and helped me keep an open mind with other career choices. Throughout my studies I still was set on being a flight attendant but I also had a new long term goal as I found I was interested in travel wholesale.

Why did you choose to study with ITC?

I knew I wanted to study travel and tourism so I did research and read about other students’ positive experiences and the great opportunities ITC offered. It seemed like a perfect match for me. The warm welcome I received on the tour around the campus before enrolling completed my decision as the study environment fitted my needs and made me excited to study.

What do you think ITC does that sets them different from other education providers?

ITC has a career advisor for the campus where they help you with writing CVs, applying for jobs, informing you on career opportunities and because they have worked in the travel industry they have good connections which helps you when applying for jobs. The tutors at ITC are the best I’ve experienced. The tutors are genuine, helpful, enthusiastic and they want you to succeed.

Did you enjoy your ITC studies? Do you have a favourite memory?

Before ITC I didn’t enjoy studying but the tutors, the close friends I made and work itself made it so enjoyable. I was always excited to go to the course, they catered to everyone’s strengths as I enjoy practical work so there was always a balance.

My favourite memory would be the Famil which was the Botany and City campus going to Rotorua and Taupo for 2 nights. I loved how I got to travel with my good friends and with people who shared the same passion of travel with me and the wonderful locations we went to (my favourite was the hot pools in Taupo).

How did ITC support you as you applied to work at Qantas?

ITC helped me with writing my CV and proofreading when applying for the role of Qantas cabin crew. The career adviser helped me with getting started on the application. ITC prepares students for interviews and work ethic, which not only helped me with my initial application but also during my tough 7 week training, I wouldn’t have been able to succeed without ITC preparing me.

What are you most excited about for your new job with Qantas?

I have been working for Qantas for 3 months now, and over one month of flying. I have enjoyed the benefits of staying in different cities in Australia and New Zealand, my favourite so far is Brisbane. I’ve met lots of people and made some really good friends. I never wanted a 9-5 job so I enjoy every day and love the shift work and the overall excitement of where I am going to next and who I will be working with. Qantas is a great company and looks after their employees and I am so proud to work for them and my future with this company (hopefully long haul in a few years’ time).

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to study travel and tourism?

If you love travel and are interested in working in the travel industry, apply to study because you won’t regret it. It was the best decision I have made, working in an industry where you are proud and enjoy makes the job never feel like work.

ITC sets you up for success for your future job so I felt prepared and ready when I graduated. You do have to put in hard work to achieve this, so throughout your studies never give up and ask your tutors questions if you are stuck with your work or have queries about your future as with my experience they are so happy to help and are passionate about what they teach and their students.
