Meet the graduate who has worked her way up and is now looking to hire our recent graduates!

Meet Zoe, the ITC graduate who has worked her way up in an Auckland hotel, and is now looking to hire recent graduates!
Zoe Daugulis graduated from ITC in 2015, and started working in a hotel in Auckland’s CBD soon after.
She recently reached out to ITC to let us know that not only is her hotel now looking for new graduates to hire for various positions, but she’s the one doing the hiring! She has worked her way up through the hotel and had an incredible story to share, so of course we had to learn more.
Zoe kindly took some time out of her very busy schedule to answer our questions!
Can you sum up your journey since you left ITC?
When I left ITC, I went to work for a hotel in the heart of the CBD. I never planned to stay with the hotel for 7 years, however I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to try a new department and work my way up. I have been in housekeeping, Food & Beverage (where I worked in the Restaurant, Café and Conference floor). Then I moved into Conference Sales where I organised the company’s Christmas parties, meetings etc and now HR.
You’ve worked in most departments in your 7 years at the hotel. How did your ITC education prepare you for such a broad range of roles?
The one thing I have learnt from ITC is to have the hunger to learn with positive attitude, which helped me immensely in adapting to different roles. The assignments I did during my time at ITC helped me in sharpening my business correspondence writing skills.
What do you love the most about working at a major Auckland hotel?
I love that there is an opportunity to grow. To try a different department or work your way up to a supervisory or management role. You can also transfer to another property in New Zealand or country if the opportunity and position you’re after is available. Plus, you get discounts on accommodation, food and beverage etc worldwide.
What have you learned about the travel and tourism industry over the past few years?
That it’s really unpredictable. That it’s important to have an open mind and be adaptable. You never know what could occur or what opportunities could arise, as you can see from my journey.
What kind of skills or knowledge are you looking for when hiring for new positions?
Overall we look for someone who has a passion and right attitude to learn. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have experience in the role. As long as you are willing to put in the time and effort in learning, we will support you in building a successful career.
Do you have passion and the right attitude to learn?
Just like Zoe explains, all you need to have an amazing career in travel and tourism is passion and the right attitude to learn. ITC can also give you a huge leg up with the qualifications and knowledge to get you in the door.
Take a look at the courses we offer and don’t hesitate to get in touch to find out more or to enrol today!
