ITC’s Business of Tourism Academy begins for 2022

Posted on 02/03/2022 by

The Business of Tourism Academy is kicking off again, and now available in South Auckland!

Despite all the challenges of the past two years, ITC has been running the Business of Tourism academy for two years now, and we’re excited to be launching our very first South Auckland academy this year.

Through the academy, students across Auckland and South Auckland can learn about tourism from a business perspective, giving them an insight into what it might be like to take these studies further and begin a rewarding lifelong career in tourism.

Here’s a little more about the Business of Tourism Academy and how you can get involved.

A quick introduction to the Business of Tourism Academy

The Business of Tourism Academy offers 30 credits at level 3, offering high school students a chance to learn more about this exciting industry while earning credits.

As well as credits, one of the biggest benefits of this course is the connection that it builds between students and employers. Throughout their studies, students will meet with industry people during site visits and activities, which will help to build a valuable network.

The course includes a strong focus on:

  • Communication
  • Cultural awareness
  • Enterprise & marketing
  • Customer service
  • Leadership
  • Public speaking
  • Presentation skills

All of these skills are highly transferable and apply to most jobs in the tourism and travel industries, as well as many other industries as well.

Who should do the Business of Tourism Academy?

The Business of Tourism Academy is a great option for anyone who has any kind of interest in working in tourism and travel.

It can help you to learn more about what the industry includes so you can decide if it’s right for you. If it is, you’ll have completed a great base level course that can start your training, and even if you decide that tourism isn’t right for you, this course covers so many valuable skills that you’ll still walk away with more confidence and knowledge that you can use in any industry.

If you’re a high student looking to be part of the Business of Tourism Academy this year, speak to your career department to join. And if you’re a school looking to take part and offer this exceptional course for your students, get in touch with ceri@itc.co.nz to find out how.
