ITC wows Explore Group staff with sales & customer experience workshops

Posted on 14/01/2020 by

Explore Group employees learn customer experience and sales tips at ITC’s Airport Training Centre.

Explore Group – one of New Zealand’s leading sailing and cruising specialists – recently engaged ITC to deliver sales and customer experience workshops to 26 of its staff members.

ITC was approached by Explore’s General Manager, Alyson Curran, to help prepare staff for the busy summer season.

“We were honoured to be asked to provide staff training for Explore Group,” says ITC Marketing Manager Mel Jenkins.

“Given our extensive knowledge of the tourism industry, we’re in a perfect position to run professional development workshops for tourism employees. Our workshops are fun, interactive, and give staff a morale and confidence boost ahead of busy times.”

Mel ran one workshop in the Bay of Islands and two workshops at ITC’s Auckland City Centre campus.

The workshops focused on sales and customer experience, including:

  • Qualifying a customer’s needs
  • How to instigate a conversation
  • Approaching a ‘looker’ and turning a looker into a buyer
  • Dealing with multiple customers at once
  • Handling time constraints
  • Utilising USPs to your advantage (what makes Explore different from its competitors)
  • Closing techniques and creating a sense of urgency
  • Overcoming roadblocks (price, availability, etc)

A lot of content to cover in one day – but ITC made it fun and memorable by using engaging role play and interactive activities.

Alyson was over the moon with how the workshops went and thanked Mel and ITC for the training.

“I’ve had great feedback from the team in Auckland, thank you again for facilitating this for us – I think it’s hugely beneficial for the team, not just in the knowledge they are taking away from the session but also from a team-building standpoint,” she said.

The staff who attended the workshop were equally as pleased, submitting feedback such as:

“Great experience, was much better than I expected. Interesting and useful, the day flew by.”

“Great workshop, good opportunity for the new team to bond. I liked the way it was very practical and linked directly to the work that we do.”

“Mel you’re an absolute legend and its easy to see you spread joy to those around you. Thank you so much for a lovely workshop – your tips and tricks will defiantly help me here in the Explore office.”
