ITC students visit tourism businesses in Christchurch

Posted on 31/07/2018 by

ITC’s Chch students recently visited two hotels and a Flight Centre to learn more about working in the local tourism industry.

Students from ITC’s Christchurch Campus recently visited local tourism businesses to see firsthand what it’s like to work in the industry.

They visited Flight Centre, Breakfree Hotel and Crowne Plaza in one epic, eye-opening day.

ITC Level 3 student Ja Kharkrang was really impressed with how much she learned on the site visits.

“The site visits were such a good experience for me. It was really interesting learning about how these businesses operate, and the opportunities of working there,” says Ja.

“I knew so little about these jobs before. Now I know about all the amazing things that come with the job, and I would love to work at any of these places!”

Site visits are an integral part of studying at ITC. The tutors take great care to organise several site visits to give students the opportunity to discover what it’s really like to have a job in tourism.

“My students enjoy hands-on activities, so this was a perfect opportunity to get them out of the classroom and immersed in the industry,” says Ruby Wade, Travel & Tourism Tutor at ITC’s Christchurch Campus.

“They especially enjoyed the visit to Flight Centre where they heard all about the exciting aspects of being a travel agent.”

In addition to being a fantastic learning experience, site visits are also a chance for students to make a good first impression with local employers. It’s common for students to find work at businesses they visited after they graduate.

Plus, site visits have the added bonus of making students feel prepared and confident about their future career.

“Now that our students have had insight to different opportunities available to them in the tourism industry, they feel positive and excited for their future,” says Ruby.

ITC runs site visits to local tourism businesses from its Auckland and Christchurch Campuses. Get in touch today to find out more about studying airline, travel and tourism with ITC. We have qualifications starting in August and would love to meet you.

Hi Jacob, our Christchurch campus is quite new (opened in 2018) and we currently teach our level 3 and level 4 Certificate programs here. Teaching a Diploma course may be something we look at in the future. We will be sure to let everyone know in advance should a Diploma program go ahead. Kind regards, ITC. :)
