Introducing Shane Te Waa
Shane Te Waa is a new tutor at ITC. Here he tells us about his love for and experience in this “rich and dynamic industry”.
I started out in this industry as a reservations consultant for Air New Zealand. After gaining a good deal of experience in this position, I moved into a training role with the company.
I later moved to the hospitality side of the industry, working more behind the scenes as a sales coordinator for the Millennium Hotel group.
After moving to Australia I worked for travel management company Carlson Wagonlit Travel as a fares coordinator. This role really put my fares knowledge and communication skills to the test. It was challenging but rewarding, as I used my experience to coach corporate consultants to better understand the often-complicated rulings and policies associated with airfares.
After a bit of travel around Australia and the USA I relocated to New Zealand and worked on a short-term, temporary basis for the global consultancy firm AECOM as a travel coordinator.
Fast-forward a year and here I am at ITC, having taken up an opportunity that presented itself at the perfect time.
The team here is awesome and everyone has been so friendly and welcoming. I’m excited to work alongside them and to help students achieve their goals, whatever they may be.
Working in the travel and tourism industry I’ve had the good fortune to travel to some great places, including the UK, Singapore, Indonesia, Fiji and Rarotonga. I love that this industry is so exciting, rich and hugely dynamic and that is reflected in the people who work within it. It’s great to be here celebrating that at ITC.
