Introducing Nicola Turner
Nicola Turner recently joined ITC’s South Auckland campus as a part-time Course Advisor. Below she tells us a little bit about herself and her travels to-date.
My career in the travel and tourism industry started straight from school where I got a job working in a travel agency. I worked my way up from a junior consultant selling bus tickets around New Zealand, to a senior consultant selling holidays around the world, before I decided to head off on my own big O.E (overseas experience).
Born in the UK, I’m lucky enough to have a British passport, so I spent 5 years in the UK. I did a bit of bar work and waitressing before joining Trafalgar Tours (a coach tour company). At Trafalgar Tours I was a customer service representative, which then led me to managing their travel agency in central London. London was an amazing base for travelling and I was able to see a lot of the UK, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Europe.
When the time came to return to New Zealand I had the opportunity to visit more places on my way home, such as Russia, Turkey and Egypt. However, the highlight was a 10-week overland safari through Africa. After all that travel, a job was what I needed, so I applied to work as a travel and tourism tutor. I have worked for both private and public training colleges since. I thoroughly enjoy working with students and passing on my knowledge and experiences.
Now I am ready for a new adventure, so I am looking forward to learning new things at ITC. The tourism and travel industry is an exciting place to have a career – no day is ever the same. You work with great people every day and, as you can see from my bio, there are a lot of areas of employment.
Enjoy your time studying at ITC, follow your dreams, be passionate, and you too can have a great career in a fun and exciting industry.
