Introducing ITC’s Employment ConsultantsPosted on 04/07/2017 by Jess O'Connor
The International Travel College (ITC) has been helping students find jobs in the airline, travel and tourism industry for over 21 years.
This year, ITC has taken this support to the next level by creating two new roles dedicated to helping more students find employment.
Introducing ITC’s Employment Consultants – longstanding and experienced ITC staff members and passionate tourism industry advocates Sarndra Stephens and Catherine Alder.
Both Sarndra and Cathy are dedicated to helping ITC students and graduates gain employment in the airline, travel and tourism workforce.
They do this by:
- Running regular on-campus CV workshops
- Assisting with interview preparation
- Helping students find part-time employment during study
- Informing students about work experience and volunteer opportunities
- Instilling and inspiring values of good work ethic
- Providing support, encouragement, and HR advice
This incredibly helpful service is available to both current ITC students and to ITC graduates.
“We assist students about to graduate as well as students who have graduated in the past who may be looking for their second or third job in the industry – the ITC partnership is ongoing,” says Sarndra.
Both Cathy and Sarndra have considerable experience working in the industry and working in education. They share their experience – in their own words – below.
I worked in the tourism industry for many years, starting out as a tour guide with Top Deck Travel. I spent about 8 months of every year touring Europe, Russia, Scandinavia, and the Eastern Bloc countries, along with Greece and Turkey, with a bunch of amazing people.
I was also lucky to be a tour guide with Contiki Holidays in New Zealand. I loved traipsing people all over New Zealand showing them what an amazing country we have on our own doorstep.
Next, I worked for Flight Centre in Newmarket, before moving to the Corporate Traveller (up the stairs from Flight Centre) where I became a Million Dollar Consultant.
My ITC career has spanned nearly 20 years (with a 6-year break in Aussie where I worked with Qantas at both check-in and as a travel agent, and worked as a tutor in several travel colleges). In that time, I have worked in many different areas including tutoring, Study From Home, course advising, and more.
I love my new role as an Employment Consultant and I love being part of the ITC team. Everybody is focused on getting our students out there into the world of airline, travel and tourism so that they can start their own exciting adventures.
ITC is an incredible place to start your airline, travel and tourism journey and gain the tools and experience you need to be a success.
I spent 10 years working as Cabin Crew for Air New Zealand international and loved every minute. I understand the excitement of students who get that exclusive interview with Air New Zealand – as I have been there.
My hope with this new role is to impart my knowledge and experience about the industry and to prepare students for that tough interview day so they can shine.
I never thought I would end up teaching or go into a recruitment position, but I have enjoyed my journey with ITC. They have made it very easy to progress into different roles and helped me expand my expertise.
I went from being a Tutor to the Tutorial Team Leader. I loved being there for the team to help them on a daily basis.
I’ve now made the step into helping students gain employment – which was probably my favourite part of my role as Tutorial Team Leader. I am happiest helping students when they come to the end of their studies and are looking for help to get into the industry. I love being a part of their story and how they got onto the road to success.
I love how ITC is like a family and we all support each other. I love how whatever you want to do to further yourself within the team is taken seriously and steps are made to make this happen.
I appreciate where I work and how lucky I am to have such amazing bosses. I look forward to seeing more success stories come out of ITC.
Our Employment Consultants are here to help all ITC students – whether you’ve just enrolled or you’ve already graduated and you’re looking for your next job opportunity. Reach out to Cathy or Sarndra today to have a chat about your career potential.
