Go With Tourism Expo a hit with ITC students
Every year, the Go With Tourism Expo offers New Zealand tourism operators a chance to showcase their brand and services to young tourism students and graduates in this huge networking event. And every year, ITC encourages students to attend and make invaluable connections to local businesses.
This year, a number of our students volunteered at the expo, helping out on several stands and deeply impressing industry insiders.
Here’s a little more about what went down!
ITC students shine at Go With Tourism Expo
ITC’s Employment Consultants Sarndra Stephens and Kirstin Leith attended the event and spoke highly about all the students involved on the day.
Sarndra explained how Leo from A J Hackett had been dreading the day, knowing how busy this well-loved brand would be, but also knowing he would be working alone. That is until ITC students Aki and Cyrus volunteered to help out.
“Cyrus was totally holding court on the fun horizontal bungy activity, and Aki was organising everyone who wanted ago on it. At one stage Leo was talking to me but realised he needed to be organising the next set of students to go on the bungy – only to turn around and see that Aki had it sorted already!”
Needless to say, Leo was incredibly impressed with both students. Cyrus even returned on the second day and third to help out again, and was rewarded with a free Sky Tower jump to say thanks.
Other students who shined on the day included Seini who was a star on the Go With Tourism stand, along with Kristina, Adi and the ITC photographer for the day, Jenny.
“On a personal level, I was incredibly proud of them all and loved to see that they were all having so much fun as well,” said Sarndra.
Outstanding feedback from tourism operators
We caught up with Heidi Gillingham from Go With Tourism to ask for her feedback on the students, and she could not have spoken more highly of their involvement:
“Having the ITC students onsite as part of the Go with Tourism x NZ Careers Expo has been fantastic. Not only were the students polite, professional, responsible & reliable but they also brought some great energy & enthusiasm to the event, engaging with all of our attendees & representing the Visitor Economy brilliantly,” she said.
We also asked A J Hackett’s Leo Medina for any feedback he had to share:
“I had a couple of great students helping out: Christine, and Aki spent some time helping out and Cyrus was the real legend, who was my 2IC during the whole show. Cyrus showed leadership, initiative, and will to learn. He was on time every day with a smile on, and ready to work. He was energetic and charismatic with our customers. Great to know that we can find some help when needed,” he said.
Why ITC is such a big name in the travel and tourism industry
ITC prepares students for work in the travel and tourism industry, but part of the reason why we’re so effective is our contacts within the industry.
We know what employers are looking for and can pass that information on to students, and we also maintain strong relationships with many of New Zealand’s top operators, which helps us to create opportunities like those at the Go With Tourism Expo.
You too can be part of the college that walks the walk when it comes to providing an education in travel and tourism. Our next course is starting this month, so get in touch to learn more or to find out how to enrol!
