Disney celebrating its 50th anniversary this year!

Posted on 20/04/2022 by

Walt Disney World in Florida is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Walt Disney World is celebrating its 50th anniversary, which is big news for the tourism industry, and for some of our wonderful ITC graduates.

The celebrations began in October last year, and will run throughout 2022 and into the start of 2023 as this beloved worldwide brand marks half a century of entertainment and joy.

Here’s a little more about the celebrations, and why it matters for tourism and ITC.

Walt Disney World Florida

Walt Disney World opened in Florida on October 1 1971, where it covers just over 100 square kilometres and includes four theme parks – Epcot, the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

It also has two water parks, a number of golf courses, a shopping centre, and a wide range of hotels.

It is an absolutely massive resort, where families visit not just for a day or two, but often for a week or even longer to explore and enjoy the entire experience. Every year, there are an average of 58 million attendees, and it all takes tens of thousands of employees across every job imaginable to make it all run smoothly.

The impact of Walt Disney World on tourism

Walt Disney World in Florida is the most visited theme park in the world, and with approximately 77,000 cast members throughout the resort, it is the largest single-site employer in the United States.

Just one of the resorts, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, has 2,880 rooms – that requires a lot of staff just in a single resort!

Even though visitor numbers dropped during lockdowns and the pandemic, Florida and Walt Disney World are already reporting increased visitor numbers.

This is all important as Walt Disney World is such a massive tourism attraction, and ITC has been working with the Disney Cultural Exchange Program for years. We are a partner provider for the program, which means our graduates can head overseas to work at Walt Disney World and gain invaluable working experience – and enjoy the chance to travel in North America!

The Disney Cultural Exchange has recently relaunched, so ITC graduates accepted to the program now will get to be part of these exciting celebrations as tourism continues to boom.

If you’d like to put yourself on track to work in Walt Disney World one day as part of the exchange program, consider enrolling with ITC now and get the skills and qualifications you need to be accepted and head overseas to work in this incredible resort. Our Employment Consultants will guide you through the process and personally recommend you as part of our Disney partnership.
