Be inspired: ‘ITC helped me grow as a person’

Posted on 19/11/2019 by

ITC graduate Kayla Jenkins reflects on the life-changing experience of studying tourism.

Welcome to ‘Be Inspired’. Every few months, we give you a ‘behind-the-scenes’ glimpse into the journey of an inspirational ITC student and share what it took for them to achieve their goals. Everyone climbs their own Everest, and these students hope to inspire others by sharing the truth of their journey to the summit.

When Kayla Jenkins first started studying at ITC, she suffered from anxiety and low self-confidence.

“I was a really anxious person,” she reflects.

“I didn’t have the confidence I needed to do things, like apply for jobs.”

While Kayla still struggles with anxiety from time to time, she says studying at ITC helped her to feel more confident and take more risks.

Like, moving to another country for work, for example!

“I’m a lot more confident now. Since studying at ITC, I’ve started working at Disney World in Florida,” says Kayla.

“I’m really proud of this. Moving to a whole new country was a huge and scary step.”

Kayla also met lifelong friends at ITC.

“I made really good friends while I was with ITC. We still hang out and talk to this day,” she says.

Her advice to future students is honest: “I’d tell myself that I’m not the only one feeling nervous. Everyone else is struggling in some way, too.”

She’s looking forward to what’s next and excited about her future, which no longer feels so daunting.

“ITC taught me the skilled I needed to learn and grow as a person,” she reflects.
