Annual ITC Industry Expo inspires students and graduates
Every year, ITC invites travel and tourism industry representatives to visit campus and engage with our students and graduates.
It’s an opportunity for employers to meet the next generation of qualified, passionate workers, and it’s a chance for our students to learn more about the industry, discover new career paths, and meet those working in the industry.
How ITC hosts this successful event every year
Our industry connections with employers from the airline, aviation, travel and tourism sectors ensure that ITC graduates have the most up-to-date range of practical skills, knowledge, and technical abilities required to build a successful career in our industry.
To ensure our students get the very best experience, our Employment Consultants organise our annual ITC Industry Expo. This is for current students and alumni. Employers are invited on-campus to present to the students and give them an insight to possible career paths.
These events are an excellent networking opportunity for our students and for industry alike and provide many opportunities for existing students to gain part time work whilst studying and full time work for alumni and those about to graduate.
This year’s expo
This year our expo was held at our City Campus. Students from the Whangarei & Botany Campus joined a number of different industry representatives to explore future career options and even meet alumni students in their exciting industry roles.
Five industry partners presented to our students and teachers, then we held an Industry Expo in our classrooms and Airport Training Centre.
We combined this day with a free Personal Development day for high school teachers who work in tourism and careers departments, so they can gain further industry contacts and learn about requirements to pass valuable information on to their secondary students.
Students and graduates enjoyed presentations from:
- Go Holidays, Helloworld
- Haka Tours
- Air New Zealand
- AJ Hackett
- ACCOR
The afternoon expo and networking opportunities were with:
- All Blacks Experience
- Tourism Adventure Group (TAG)
- Contiki
- Cordis
- Entrada
- Explore
- Go Rentals
- First Light Travel
- International Working Holidays (IWH)
- Menzies Aviation
- Qantas/ Jetconnect
- Sudima
- Fullers
Feedback on this year’s event
The day was a huge success with many graduating students busy now applying for some incredible roles. We had great pleasure in welcoming an exciting variety of tourism and airline organisations.
Chairperson of the Tourism Teachers Association, Julie McDougall said, “I thought it was really useful and a different type of day where teachers and careers advisors could interact with industry businesses and members.”
Here is what some of our industry contacts had to say:
AJ Hackett
AJ Hackett Auckland Sites Manager, Priel said “I had a great time presenting at the industry expo! It’s an authentic way to meet and connect with bright, young minds while showcasing the best that our organisation and industry has to offer. Looking forward to seeing the graduates do great things in the future!”
International Working Holidays
International Working Holidays loved being there for a second year running. It was incredible to see the students who we met for the first time at last year’s expo, who are starting their adventures with us shortly and meeting the new ones who will be next up on their life changing international working holiday in the USA.
Accor Hotels
‘’Accor Hotels New Zealand was honoured to partner with ITC and attend their annual Hospitality & Tourism expo for their students, tutors and local teachers. The day was filled with excitement as we met some of the future leaders in the industry and networked with other companies. Ceri, Mel, Kirsten, Sarndra and all the tutors were exceptional, from planning and liaising, communications and making us feel welcome.
With a different style expo this year, the intimate groups and presentation style was impactful, allowing us to share our stories and all about Accor and hopefully leave the students feeling inspired. With personal ties to ITC, we were able to showcase the successful career of Zoe Daugulis, Alumni and Eli Fifita, ITC Student Advisory Board member.
Thank you ITC for the invitation, warm welcome and a wonderful event, we can’t wait for the next one!”
Helloworld
Helloworld said “After the past few years it was wonderful to visit ITC and see the next generation of people looking to work in travel and tourism. With so many opportunities around, the chances for them to enjoy a great career in our industry have never been better.”
ITC
Sarndra and Kirsten, our ITC Employment Consultants are excited about the positive student and industry feedback, the applications being made and that some students are now looking at pursuing careers in the industry they had never thought of before the event. It is great to feel that positive buzz around the campuses.
ITC works hard to provide students and graduates with more than just an education. We also set up events such as this industry expo, and maintain strong connections with industry insiders to help graduates find their way into travel and tourism.
If that sounds like the kind of college you’d like to be part of, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch to learn about our qualifications and where they could take you.
