8 high school students awarded scholarships to study tourism at ITC
18 April 2016
The International Travel College of New Zealand (ITC) has awarded scholarships to eight talented students from high schools in Auckland and Whangarei. The students will receive financial assistance to study towards a qualification in tourism at ITC in 2016.
Every year ITC grants scholarships to talented students who demonstrate a passion for the travel and tourism industry. This year, ITC invited high school students to apply for a scholarship by submitting a piece of content (e.g. a blog post, short video or comic strip) that outlined why they would be deserving of this prestigious award.
The 8 winners are as follows:
- Nora Hoff from James Cook High School
- Debbie Ufipoa from James Cook High School
- Rosetta Sofala from Tangaroa College
- Taylor Nummy from Waitakere College
- Faith Kosetatino from James Cook High School
- Natasha Sa’u from Mount Roskill Grammar School
- Megan Evans from He Mataariki School for Teen Parents (Whangarei)
- Alice Lou from St Dominic’s Catholic College (international student from China)
ITC Account Manager Ceri Jenkins said he was extremely impressed with the calibre of this year’s entries.
“We had more applications this year than any other year I have been doing this,” says Ceri, who has been managing the ITC scholarships for 8 years and counting.
“The standard was definitely a step up this year with some of the entries the best I have ever seen. All students obviously put a lot of work into their applications.”
Ceri added that the best part of his job is phoning the winners to let them know their application was successful.
“I had people scream in delight and one could not talk to me as she was crying, so her mother had to take over the conversation. The overwhelming feeling I got from the students was how proud their families would be of their achievement,” says Ceri.
The eight scholarship recipients are split across ITC’s Auckland, Botany and Whangarei campuses. The majority of students are studying towards the New Zealand Certificate in Travel Level 4. For more information about the winners, please contact Ceri Jenkins on 0800 868 747.
