3 reasons to return to study after you get your first tourism job

Posted on 25/07/2017 by

Returning to study after a few years in the tourism workforce can be a great way to take your career to the next level.

If you’ve been working in tourism for a while, and you’re looking for your next career opportunity, returning to study at Level 5 could help you get a better, higher paid job.

Your first tourism job is just the beginning. Here are three reasons to return to study after you’ve had some work experience.

1. You want to become a manager

A Level 3 or Level 4 qualification from ITC will help prepare you for the start of your career. These courses teach you everything you need to know about the airline, travel and tourism industry.

But if you want to become a manager one day, you’ll need some specific management training – such as that taught in the New Zealand Diploma of Tourism Level 5.

This Diploma covers management topics such as Human Resources, Marketing, Finance, Technology, and Strategic Planning. It will prepare you for a leadership role within the tourism industry and give you the confidence to manage other people.

2. You want to move overseas

A Level 5 qualification can also help you get a good job overseas. It shows employers that you’re serious about your career, not just looking for a casual summer holiday job.

If you’re thinking about making an international career move, why not come into College at chat to us about your career dreams and ideas? Our tutors have worked in various countries around the world and might be able to help you prepare for your overseas journey.

3. You want to start your own business one day

Do you dream of one day starting your own business? Whether you want to build a tour guiding company or be the next AJ Hackett, a Level 5 qualification can help you prepare for the challenges of running a profitable enterprise.

You’ll learn all about marketing and advertising, crunching the numbers, strategic planning, and much more. It’s a good introduction into the “business” side of working in tourism. Plus, many ITC staff are also small business owners and will happily give you advice as you study.

If you’re bored in your current role, or you’re looking for your next big break, get in touch to see if our Level 5 Diploma is right for you. We’d love to help you take the next step in your career.
